Now that it's officially legal night hunting season in Louisiana, figured we could start an "outlaw quadruped" thread.

    Dropped these 6 last night.

Very nice. You calling them up? What call are you using?

I had pretty good luck last year calling up bobcats and foxes in North Alabama but could not seem to get any Coyotes out in the open.

Started out as spot n stalk from the truck. Did call a few up with a primos e-call and actually brought 2 in with a predator call iPhone app. Hunting over dry, plowed rice fields last night.

    Thanks.

And yessir. IR Hunter MKII 20mm on the rifle. IR Patrol m300w on the yote. Tough to beat thermal setup. This was the Patrol's first hunt. Have had the MKII for a month or so and its claimed several hogs in Tx. Planning to upgrade the MKII to the 35mm once hunting slows down.

So the M300 looks a bit lighter. How does it compare in the field? Pardon the ignorance....new to IR.

    Nice take!

Did you shoot the sow and the piglets kept coming back or were these separate kill locations?

I trapped a 150# boar last weekend and was feeling pretty good about my first trapping attempt... til I saw your post and know I've got to up my numbers!

We were on the edge of a rice field a pile of them were routing up. After the first shot everything started running in different directions. One actually circled through the woods behind us and popped out at 15 yards. It was the last to fall...

Good catch on the boar! In my limited trapping experience, we get one or two at a time but rarely big numbers. Night time spot n stalk can be a very different story. We've had a dry spell recently but redeemed ourselves last night.

Checked a corral trap Sunday and found these four beauties. 90#, 88#, 50# and 33#. The two small ones are brineing now to be grilled whole.

182# boar this morning. Trapped him last night with a $40 Fremont leg snare thrower. I had three or four misfires from this particular snare before this pig (my error, not the error of the thrower). Think I may have finally figured out how to lay the thrower so it fires the snare properly. Trapping is not as easy as it sounds and I'm still learning. This is my fourth week of trapping and have had half dozen snare misfires, half dozen coral trap jail breaks and still seven hogs in the freezer. The boar this morning took off at me (he wanted a piece of me) and if that snare had not held he might have torn me up. That's the last time I get so close on foot to a wounded boar (about 20 yards) if I don't have to. Will shoot him with high powered rifle at 50 yards instead of trying to put a .45ACP in him from 10 yards.

Check with someone who knows about trudging around the woods with a high power rifle. I had a problem a few years ago in your neck of the woods about this issue and was told I would be arrested for hunting deer out of season if He caught me again with a rifle in the off season.

Got to make one last hunt before the month ends. Took this guy out of the rice field last night. 6.8 SPC at about 150 yards.
