Anyone keeping up with the debacle going on at firehouse BBQ in Watson? Seems they made it well known through social media and news interviews that they were going to fight the power and not require masks or follow any guidelines at their establishment. Well I guess today they found out fighting the power has consequences and you have to be prepared to stay the course. Apparently they are asking for donations to help with legal expenses. I’m all for fighting for something you believe in but don’t come begging for money when it doesn’t go as planned. What do y’all think?

I can't fault anyone who agrees with them for helping them out. It seems like anyone who strongly agrees with the business would want to help them out financially. It sounds like they are staying the course, possibly with a large financial burden. I thinks it's appropriate for them to ask the people they are taking a stand for if they would be willing to do something to help with the fight.

Agreed is it up to everyone else to fund them no but if you agree with them and hope they can set a precedent then help them out. If one of the places I frequent finds themselves in similar circumstances I’ll chip in some pennies and continue to patronize. This is a vote with your wallet moment. I continue to defy the mayor and now governor here when the establishment doesn’t press the issue.

Who are they taking a stand for? Themselves, employees? The original reason was because it was causing health problems from their employees breathing their own exhaled carbon monoxide . Doctors and nurses have been wearing them for decades while doing their job and seem to do fine. I have no problem if anyone wants to eat there(inside or takeout) but why would they lay their legal fees. I think that’s part of the reason to buy there and show support, right? No different than marchiofava(however u spell his name) doing what he does then ask us to pay all his legal bills because he’s taking a stand. Seems that when the state enforced the court order the employees will be out of a job, then they will need a go fund me as well. I would be more apt to give to a go fund me for an employee who was listening to their boss and actually showing up for work.

They're taking a stand for themselves and anyone else who agrees with them. Someone might be inclined to donate to their legal bills because they agree with the stand the restaurant is taking.

That’s what I was thinking, show support by spending your money there.

If you're going there to show support when you would otherwise go somewhere else, the net result is an increase in money available to them for legal bills. Is it that far of a stretch to understand people donating directly to their legal bills? I'm pretty sure the donations are voluntary.

I guess I’m not making my point clear enough. The problem I have is this.
If I decide to take a stand on something that would affect my livelihood and the livelihood of people that depend on me, I would damn sure plan on the legal bills. I would not think that I am taking this stand and once the actual battle starts my only plan is to get everyone else to pay for it. I think I would have taken all of the extra money I was making from people coming in to support me and put it aside for a legal defense. Part of the taking a stand included having more people inside contrary to the mandate. This afforded them the opportunity to make more money than other comparable restaurants.

Is it possible they weighed their options and they could be in worse shape if they didn't take a stand? There would likely be a financial burden either way they went.

They weighed their options and broadcasted they were fighting the man. I’m sure they also knew they could throw up a go fund me and people would throw money at them because they were fighting the man. I’m well aware of this but was wondering what others thought. It’s clear you don’t have a problem with it. Just wondering If anyone else sees this as the new norm as Dave said.

I've seen it from a few people on both sides of almost every issue in the past two years.

Think of it like the NRA. They will fight for what is right, but they need your money to pay for it.

Yep, and from what I’ve read the NRA wasn’t very responsible with the donations

The biggest problem with "standing up to the man" is the "man" has limitless cash resources in which to fight back.

Now, she claims that she has done everything by the guidelines of the mandate. She claims there is a medical exception clause to opt out of wearing the masks. Don't know, couldn't care less. Not sure how every one that works there needs a medical exception?!?

To adjudicate this, will cost her a lot more than she thinks, which is another disadvantage to "taking on the man!" I would think that she has an attorney, and I would hope that he/she would have looked at the mandate, and guidelines, and given this woman sound advice on whether she should proceed.

So, to some degree, I believe that government should be able to battle back if they too believe the end justifies the means. But, if they are out to prove a point, or be an arrogant narcissist, like Sharon Weston Broome in her quest to punish the people who have democratically elected to start there own city in St. George, then the taxpayers are taking it in the a$$ to fund this knucklehead's revenge. That is garbage, and a slap in the face of the people. I hope Edwards isn't riding on that train.

For me personally if I want a business to stand up and violate these various ever changing rules that have unilaterally been imposed then I have to be willing to help however I can. So I’ve certainly been voting with my wallet.

Now going out of your way to pick a fight that you may win but will leave you worse off is not the smartest tactic, but telling your customers that you will stand up on your hind legs and not participate in the nonsense is commendable.

The problem is our country has become overrun with power hungry narcissists from coast to coast and since we have a two party system that really doesn’t ever provide any real choice we have two options if we want to regain any so-called freedom. 1. Violent revolution (bad idea really bad idea), or 2. We can practice civil disobedience and force the hands of those who believe themselves autocrats. They will either back down or bow up.

Please don’t misunderstand this isn’t a call for violence or even a call for protest that would set up a confrontation, I’m saying ignore the SOB’s (the best you can) and live your life and patronize those who will do the same. And if they end up needing some help it’s not necessarily them being a mooch. Remember we must hang together or we will most certainly hang separately. - Franklin (likely butchered a little)

Taking this snippet to go a different direction from that post.

I don’t understand all this “medically can’t wear a mask” crap. So, you worried about reinhaling carbon dioxide that you exhaled? (Not you actually, motor but you figuratively) But your airways are already full of exhaled air that you are re-inhaling deeper anyway. People sure don’t have a problem snorkeling, reinhaling a larger volume of air that. Your body will adjust as long as the volume isn’t the major part of what you’re inhaling, and the added volume of what’s behind the mask is small compared to even what’s in your airways. So small that your body’s natural breathing trigger will adjust for it. You might take an extra breath or two every minute? All that said, if you really are so struggled or labored in your breathing that a thin piece of filter media will interfere enough to put you into medical distress, do you really think you should even be out and about during an outbreak of a virus that will take away from even what little breathing ability you have left? Don’t give me that ********. Just come out and say you don’t want to. I’d respect that more than some cockamamie excuse.

As far as the “the oxygen level drops too low” crap. I did the test myself at work. Only the n95 masks and only after exhaling did it drop lower than what’s considered dangerous. Immediately upon starting to inhale, that number went right back up. So I ran a 1 minute average using normal breathing and the average 02 was within acceptable limits. (I had to seriously shorten the sample tube to get the results to come quickly enough and track breathing).

They shoulda just said that a mask would foil the facial recognition cameras. Wouldn’ta been an issue then lol.

Well, well, well. CDC finally admits that of those that have fatally succumbed to the CCP Virus, over 90% (some estimates say as much as 94%), had "multiple" co-morbidity issues BEFORE they contracted the virus. I also heard yesterday, that the of that 90%, each person had an average of 2.6 co-morbid conditions. :eek3:

So, we are to believe that they just came up with these statistics? This is yet another reason why the news media (particularly those who identify as liberal douche outlets), and those media outlet wannabe's, can NEVER be trusted.

Wonder how many of the co-morbidities were car wrecks, GSWs, knife wounds, etc?

So given this new info, the best course of action is to double down on the mask restrictions.
