JBE is part of the problem. He vetoed the bill. Those that flip flopped are ALSO part of the problem. Let's not forget those in LE that came out stating we in the public could not properly manage this responsibility. Sorry to say this but I do not expect it to change this time around but I do hope I am wrong.

As pro gun as I have always been I would like to see this bill passed, but I would prefer it to require at least some proof of some form of firearms training. You have people going to classes right now who have never once fired a gun before the class.and have know idea about proper ammo selection for selfdefense or even the basic laws that go along with this.
I say we continue with the classes, but allow individuals to. get the permit for free. Just pay
for your class.

See that’s part of the problem. Nobody should have to pay for anything. It’s always been a money making scheme… Always will be. You trying to require people to have training to carry is impossible. What is the standard? How much training for how long? What about physically disabled people who know how to shoot but can’t do specific training? Money money money…. Who are we to say what someone knows about the firearm they want to carry? Circles back to the $$$$$$$$$$$. Roflol oh the struggles…..

Hunters' education classes are free. Training bill, thanks to the author, is now proceeding along with this one. FREE provided by the state, as it should be.

Wonder how many CC holders out there know that if drink any Alcholic beverage you are not allowed to carry at the time. I see this being violated often in this state. Esp by my Friends in the NOLA area.

Alcohol and firearms do not mix well. The state advises this for CCW permittee:
(3) The permit to carry a concealed weapon shall be revoked by the deputy secretary when the permittee is carrying and concealing a handgun under any of the following circumstances:
(a) The blood alcohol reading of a permittee is .05 percent or greater by weight of alcohol in the blood.
(b) A permittee's blood test or urine test shows the confirmed presence of a controlled dangerous substance as defined in R.S. 40:961 and 964.
(c) A permittee refuses to submit to a department-certified chemical test when requested to do so by a law enforcement officer pursuant to Paragraph (2) of this Subsection.

Right. .05 percent basically means any alcohol. A single beer will get you there.

It'll take about 2 drinks in an hour for a 160 pound man to reach .05 BAC. I keep my alcohol consumption under two drinks at dinner if I'm carrying, unfortunately I haven't seen 160 pounds in many moons.

Yeah, that's correct but they flopped under pressure from JBE. Not to mention had JBE just signed or let it go without a veto we wouldn't have needed the session to start with.

The only reason I say pay for your class is because people who teach these classes should be paid for there time unless they want to volunteer. I think if someone has to pay $75 to $100 one time to at least get some knowledge about State laws concerning firearm carry and how to possibly avoid certain situations and learn some things about de escalation, proper ammunition for self defense and how to even operate and handgun is a win win for us all. I do understand that regardless of what the government believes, it’s your God given right to be able to defend yourself. I would just feel a whole lot better knowing that most of the people carrying in public had at least some basic knowledge on how to use there weapons and had some sort of proficiency with them. If not then you have people shooting with their eyes closed, firing their weapon with fmj ball rounds possibly injuring or killing innocent people due to bad ammo selections etc. etc. At least if they had some kind of foundation to begin with it would be better for us all.
