If everything went to hell tomorrow and there were no more guns or ammo to be had , would you have enough to get by ? Could you still go to the range occasionally and feel like you have enough ammo to handle a small " disturbance " should it be necessary ? At my present rate of consumption , I think I'm good on everything I shoot . I'm not interested in turning this into a who has the biggest stash contest . I'm just curious if people feel comfortable .

Very comfortable in the common stuff....9mm, .223, .45, 12 ga, 22LR and WMR

Probably a little light in hunting caliber stuff.

" No more guns or ammo to be had " your words..

Again , why would anyone waste ammo at a range

But back to the question. I would not waste a shot on anything that didn't contribute to my survival or my immediate family.

What I don't use, would pass on to them with like instructions
exactly, total break down in society and general way of life... 99.9% of the time unless they pose a threat to me or my family, they will walk on by simply because they dont know im there watching them, and allowing them to walk on by...

you would be surprised, i love my big caliber guns and ar's/ak's hunting rifles ect, but a good .22 rifle and a brick of .22's will protect and provide food for you and your kids and your kids kids if managed properly lol

Maybe because some people might think they have enough for that luxury ? Does it matter what other people might do ?

I wouldn’t exactly consider training at a gun range wasting ammo. Shooting is a perishable skill. I would definitely cut back in the amount I shoot but I’d still get some live fire training from time to time.

Spare gun parts should also be thought about. Something as simple a guid rod or recoil spring assembly is something I’d stock up on. The guidrod is usually one of the first parts replaced when I do maintenance. It’s usually overlooked but it shouldn’t be. It’s a critical piece to keeping a handgun running reliably and will likely be the first part needing to be replaced for moderate to heavy shooters. Always a good idea to have spare parts for the guns you rely on or even better a spare gun.

I have enough for hunting and self-defense if it's all over, but I definitely do not have enough to train, practice, or shoot for fun

Depends on how much you have .
Also depends on what your shooting for. What if you have a rifle that you’ve never sighted in and need to 0 the scope. Or your going to lend a handgun to a family member that’s never been fired. Or if you have 20k rounds of 9mm and decide to go and train with 100 rounds to stay proficient.

I have ammo and can protect what we have. But the old Beeman would be the squirrel killer. Nice and quite. No use letting anyone know I own what I have.

I find it funny guys think if things really whet belly up they could live for any extended time.
Maybe some can but would not bet on it.

So yes I would like to think I have ammo and guns to handle life style for a Mad Man situation but am old to handle the Thunder Dome.

If we experienced a complete collapse of America and an all out SHTF situation 95% of people on BS would perish in the first 3-6 months including myself more than likely unfortunately. Guns and ammo are definitely a plus in a hypothetical crazy time like that but guns and ammo alone aren’t going to be enough to survive.

As far as hunting quietly I like 22lr CCI short cb caps or CCI quiet. That out of a rifle length barrel are more quiet than any pellet gun I’ve ever shot and probably more effective on small game. Definitely enough i mph to drop a squirrel, wabbit, or bird

I already stopped going to the range. Ammo now costs too much and can still be hard to find. I am well stocked but it can be difficult to re-stock.

Enough, yes, plus more powder, primers, bullets than I will probably ever use, plus about 300 pounds of lead alloy, wheelweights cleaned and poured into igots, and about 90 pounds of pure linotype. At 77 years old I will never use it all, my son will inherit, and probably sell a lot of it. I forgot to mention brass, plenty of that. Whenever I got a new caliber I usually buy around 1000 rounds of brass, some odd calibers like 9.3x57, 6.5 Swedish mauser, 38-55, 32-20 , 375 H&H, .458 Win Mag, 45-70, some of the less common calibers. I got onto a 6.5 Grendel kick 10-12 years back before it was a standardized SAMI cartridge, and brass was very hard to come by, and if you did find, it was usually Lapua and very expensive so I found a couple of thousand rounds of good IMI(Israli military industries) 7.62x39 brass, ran it through the 6.5 Grendel die and have shot a fair amount fireforming it properly. I also have a real uncommon one .41 Swiss (10.4x38 i think), really a rimfire cartridge, but I can make brass by cutting down either .348 Winchester or 8mm Lebel brass, expanding and loading, it is strickly a black poweder deal as the gun is an 1869 Swiss Vetterli.
