Because they don’t pay the road taxes associated with buying gas.
But of course! There’ll be no loop holes here!……
Next thing you know they’ll be charging for you to ride your bike or electric scooter or skateboard…

Yes a Tesla might be fast, but it can't touch the smell of fuel burning, the sound of a Lamborghini V10, Chevy V8, or a Ford 5.0. the scream of a ginormous turbo bolted onto a 2.0 4cyl, the sound of tires screaming for mercy at well over 100mph, the feeling you get when you're surrounded by 20 600+hp Lamborghini's is amazing. When you get to go for a ride in one of those cars is amazing. I've gotten to ride in a Tesla, and I felt like I was in a toy. I also have ridden in many high end race cars (not fast street cars, but legit race cars) and I get the feeling I'm getting into a death machine that's ready to deal it's cards at the first chance it gets. Nothing can replace that adrenaline rush..

I'm not sure how it works but my dad bought an electric car and he was not eligible for the tax credit or whatever it is. Idk if it has anything to do with his income.

Tactitools and blanket statements... Welcome to Bayoushooter.
The Federal EV Tax Credit only applies to a manufacturer’s first 200k EV sales. GM and Tesla hit that mark a long time ago. Ford will hit 200k EV sales by 2023.

Bernie Sanders did the same thing in his home state. Set up big subsidies for people to go green and not suck fossil fuel. They sold so many EV that year and he was proud to gloat that they were doing their part to save the planet. The unintended consequence was that they lost 350 million in gasoline tax the next year for road maintenance. This sent them into a tissy and proposed a mileage tax on EV for every mile driven a year.

Needless to say, about a dozen of the elected parasites got unelected the next year.

“Y’all could talk about me all you want to. 0-60 in 1.99 seconds.”
That is very impressive. I’m sure that’s Tesla’s #s on a full charge. I’d like to know the #s on a half or quarter charge.
Big Daddy ran an electric Dragster for a little while. He had to change batteries every pass.
Formula E was worse. Run a road race while managing battery power then at 1/2 way, pit & Change Cars! I’d have like to see a battery change.

Several states have toyed with the idea of converting all vehicles to a mileage tax. The problem is how to track the miles. If you simply have to have your odometer read on a scheduled basis, how do you show when you were driving somewhere other than in your home state? If you require a gps tracker for it, how do you square that with privacy concerns? If you base the tax on the vehicle weight and set a value on a per year basis, how do you prorate it when someone sells the vehicle?

The gasoline tax is far easier to handle, but with the push for EVs, government is going to have to work around the drop in income from gas tax to find a way to make up the lost revenue.

Mine does 0-60 same time regardless of battery remaining. Aggressive acceleration indeed draws more energy, but you’ll still get a couple hundred miles or more out of any fully charged (90%) late model Tesla regardless of how you drive it.

The Plaid model is able to pull just as hard even with a much lower state of charge. Its the only one.

The Model 3 Performance loses 64 horsepower as soon as it goes under 70% charge. Its over 500hp all wheel drive when its 70% plus.
