Been going to Nick's for years but it's always packed as it's too small of a range and you only get 100 yards max. Good enough for zeroing but that's about it. Looking for anything within a 30-40 mile radius of New Orleans metro area for rifle shooting to have as a second option from Nick's really. Heard awhile back Avondale had a range but was a members only thing. Never been.

MCTA in Kiln, Mississippi is really nice. It has 100, 200, and 300 yard rifle ranges as well as pistol ranges. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday it’s open to the general public for $15 to shoot all day. If you get a membership it’s 24/7 365 and you can shoot anytime of the day or night that you’d like too.

It's staffed 24/7? Wow I've never heard of a range that did that. I'm going to look up their website if they have one. Definitely have to check that out if so!

    I don't think it's staffed 24/7 but as a member you have 24/7 access.

Tactitools and blanket statements... Welcome to Bayoushooter.

24/7 access staffed or not means everyone they allow to do that is serious about shooting. I like it because only serious shooters would be there at off hours. Thanks again for the information.

Not staffed 24/7 but you do have access 24/7. I’ve only seen staff on the weekends. The Saturdays and Sundays I did try to go it was packed. Friday usually isn’t bad at all not very many people.

Your assumption would be incorrect. Before I bought Cut Off Range Complex I was a member at MCTA for many years. MCTA is a great resource and I am supportive of all ranges in the area.

However I have to tell you this as a safety issue. I have been there before dawn and after dusk and on weekdays when there is no staff there and have seen some very shady stuff——poor firearms handling and suspicious folks. If you are there without staff keep a loaded pistol on you at all times and watch your stuff. Lots of people know the gate code that aren’t members (they seldom change it) and you never know who you might run across who wants your stuff.

We dabbled with the idea of making CORC 24 hours but it’s too nice to tear up. I’ve got around $20k in steel targets out there now and numerous buildings and bathrooms. It’s not like MCTA where they have a portable toilet and some awnings. Hell even out there everything gets shot to ****. They unfortunately can’t ever build any real structures out at MCTA because it is in the buffer zone.

Right now MCTA is the nearest place with individual pistol/carbine bays. We will be putting some bays in the future at CORC but we’ve got years worth of work ahead of us.

I think Palo Alto is members only. It’s a beautiful place but there are a lot of rules there (some say too many, but that is a subjective opinion) and they are strictly enforced.

If you are in the Baton Rouge area it is a viable choice but I would carefully read the rule book and talk to members before applying. I know the membership application process was not a sure thing in the past and I think they only had certain times of the year they accepted applications.
