Have been thinking of putting a red dot on one of my EDC pistols. I have one on my target/hunting/competition pistol. But it occurred to me I have about 6 pistols that i would carry depending on what and where and several of those cannot be affixed with red dot cheaply. I think I know the answer but if I'm using iron sights for everyday carry with one pistol, I should do the same for all of my everyday carry. pistols. Grip, sight alignment, and sight picture will the same with them. Just wanted to get some thoughts from the you guys.

I don't think its necessary to have all potential carry option have a red dots. My main edc has one and most of the time that is what is on me. However, I do have a deeper concealment option that also gets regular use as well without a red dot. I think it's just like most things if you practice with each you shouldn't have a problem. just need to put the time in with both. same would go for different carry positions/holster types. Need to keep the draw stroke proficient each and everyway you plan on carrying.

Thanks for the replies. As to it already being discussed, my search turned up nothing before starting this postCan . As to carrying, I remember what my trainers use to tell us over and over, when a SHTF situation occurs and adrenalin is a raging river, a person will revert to their training. I guess that's where the question comes from. Lot's of training with both may get you to the point that either sights will become automatic.

regardless of what you carry, night sights, reg sights, red dot, ect...

not that training should ever stop, cause it dont, lol, but if you cant stand, find a target 15ft away, close your eyes, draw from concealment, present and press out, then open eyes and gun sights not be lined up and on target without any adjustments.. your in a bad position and need to do alot more training...

i would imagine 95% of the people conceal carry dont practice at all and if they do, they go to a range and just pick the pistol up off of the table and do a few mag dumps

cant tell you how many rounds i have burnt up doing single shot stings drawing from concealment pressing out and shooting, re holster and repeat...

This is exactly what is keeping me away from them. As well as something else to worry about, breaking snagging, etc.

I am already accurate and quick enough on the draw, so why screw it up.

like most people, I carry 1 pistol about 92.5% of the time, the other times it’s usually “Just because”. So if I do do to a red dot, it would just be my carry. It would be po expensive to convert all the pistols I may carry.

    my 2 cents.

I’ve seen a few but I think it’s a more complicated and more rigorous qualification than standard pistol so a lot of them may feel it’s not worth it…. Being that I would say a good 85% of law-enforcement do not share the same amount of gun enthusiasm and practice that the 1% of us represent … I know a few LE they don’t even take their gun out to practice until his qualification time…

Plus it’s probably harder to pick up on a red dot while inside a cop car with blacked out tinted windows :deadhorse:

    here
Wonder how many LEO’s have red dot sights on their service pistols? I’ve yet to see one, although I’m sure they’re out there. Right?

Tons of them. We have many on my department and have more red dot classes coming.
