I'm curious if the CHP in the app counts as having my permit on my person when I'm carrying? I always have my permit with me, just wondering if I happen to forget it one day.

It depends on which version you are running whether it will pick it up automatically . I had to update mine . My wife was running a newer version and hers showed up with no update .

I think using the app voluntarily will prepare us for when it’s forced upon us

You know, the more I think about it, I'd be pretty reluctant to unlock my phone and hand it over to the police. It's nice to have as a backup though.

I just choose to not have embarrassing stuff on my phone.

You are not required to hand over the phone to anyone . Your choice . See text .(e) The display of a digitized driver's license shall not serve as consent or authorization for a law enforcement officer, or any other person, to search, view, or access any other data or application on the mobile device. If a person presents their mobile device to a law enforcement officer for purposes of displaying their digitized driver's license, the law enforcement officer shall promptly return the mobile device to the person once he has had an opportunity to verify the identity and license status of the person.

Absolutely does. The email from the unit sergeant sent out to chp instructors yesterday says:

"LSP will honor the digital version of the permit as proof of a valid permit. However, permittees will still be issued a physical hard card version and are by no means required to utilize the digital app. Regardless if they utilize a digital or physical permit, concealed carry permitees are still bound by the existing concealed carry laws."

I can't think of a time when you'd go with your phone but not your wallet, other than maybe while exercising. But who's to say.

That's exactly why I was asking. I usually take my license and permit when exercising in the neighborhood, but I did forget once. It's nice to have a backup plan just in case. Thanks for the reply
