@AustinBR A couple more came to mind today. Author Jon Krakauer, read two of his books so far. Into Thin Air (climbing Everest gone bad) and Into the Wild (Chris McCandless aka Alexander Supertramp). Easy reads, weekend books. Krakauer is an excellent researcher and writer.

Over the past few years I've made it a goal to read at least one non-fiction book per month. My "to-read" list is fairly long, but I find myself adding more books that are more interesting than reading some of the other ones on the list.

Here is my current list of non-fiction or educational-fiction books that I want to knock out in 2023. I'd like to add a handful more as I'm going to be downloading a few on Audible for car rides and while doing (dying on!) cardio.

Does anyone have any good non-fiction books that you read recently that you enjoyed?

    2023 Reading List:
    To Kill a Mockingbird
    Inside Seal Team 6
    The Art of War
    Alexander Hamilton Biography
    The Federalist Papers
    1984
    Chariots of the Gods
    Killing Patton
    The Big Short
Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies - Jarad Diamond.
Washington: A Life - Ron Chernow
    Fahrenheit 451
The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership - John Maxwell
The King of Torts - John Grisham
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich - William Shirer
    ReWork
    How Not to Die
    A Brief History of Time
I enjoyed the Admiral Fluckey story. US Sub commander who revolutionized sub warfare. Can’t Remember the exact name it it was based on his secret diary he kept which he wasn’t supposed to keep. Another is Shadow Divers which was about a U Boat and the history of the boat and it’s discovery by divers off the US coast.

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William L. Shirer - considered by many THE best on the subject, but a LONG read.

I thought it was a little repetitive, but the point was well made and good knowledge to have.

    Thanks, sir!

I'm about 20% of the way through The Gift of Fear and I already knocked out 1984. Reading 1984 as an adult definitely hits home...especially as it looks like a lot of it is happening now.

Unsettled by Koonin, Must read concering the climate debate. Fact based. Compelling. x2 on War and Peace. Don't remember much but how much I enjoyed. Also Accidental Superpower by Peter Zeihan. Maybe two years old but incredibly prescient now that the Ukraine war is on. Very interesting also for the Mississippi river discussion and its importance to the U.S.

Odyssey of a Derelict Gunslinger - John Camp. He talks about Barry Seal, Jimmy Swaggert and some other folks. He was a journalist here when all that stuff was going on.

I'll add in "Empire of the Summer Moon" about the Comanche empire of the Texas plains. Extremely well written historical account of the American expansion into Texas and how things went based on real history. Think real life "Josey Wales" and Ten Bears. Not preachy at all, just factual writing on what happened as America's expansion and Comanche territory collided. It was a gift that sat on a shelf for almost 5 years. I am embarrased it took me that long to pick it up and read it. Took me maybe 3 days to finish once I started.
