I have the popcorn in the microwave…. Honestly though, I heard they were trying to find a better way to defeat body armor…. I really think it’s just that time where gun manufacturers are losing money because everyone and their mom can build AR’s. Now they will field a way more expensive rifle with way more expensive ammo…. The tried and true battle rifle will cost 300-400% more than what we can pay now. Let’s say we are 5 years down the road and only the military has access to these new weapons and ammo, and boom the poop hits the fan. We as civilians have to defend our families and the normal Joe runs through their last rounds in let’s say a month. Now what? That weapon system that has been tried and true has run dry and there is no more ammo. But the tyrannical government has their new hybrid ammo and none of our weapons will run it… Just something to think about. A proprietary weapon system with a proprietary ammunition sounds like money money money money! It’s pretty much the way hunting and fishing has become in Louisiana. It’s now a rich man’s game. It costs $250 plus for 1 duck hunt per person. Oh you want to fish? The boat costs more than a car. So let’s hire a guide. Ok it’s $1,000 per person to ride in my boat for a couple hours to go catch some free fish… Want to deer or hog hunt? Ok let’s charge $2,000-$5,000 a year and hope you see at least 2 deer…. You gotta be rich to hunt and fish, and now you are going to have to be rich to own guns…. I’m hoping Jesus comes back soon, because we won’t be able to afford food in the store or afford killing your food because everything is leased…. What say you?

I’m sure many people have enough 5.56 to last a lifetime or two. I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon even if the army does proceed forward with selecting the new rifle and implementing it, 5.56 isn’t just going away.

As far as fishing with a boat and a guid, that’s a luxury. It cost all of about $10 to fish all year In Louisiana. Plenty of places to cast a pole from land and do some good fishing.

Yes these days I’m a bank fisherman… It sucks sometimes, but I sure can’t afford one of those high dollar rigs that fly across the water lol… But to get to this big bass you gotta get out into places you can’t walk to… Do you think the 6.8X51 round is practical? Are you going to buy the civilian version of the new Sig?

If it gets wide spread adoption throughout the branches of the military then within time I’m sure I’ll adopt it but my ARs and 5.56 still aren’t going anywhere.

Speaking of fishing I found this video of a bass study they did in Toledo bend. Very interesting

You don't need a land lease to find deer or hog. You're looking at about (barring clothing and equipment) about $50/year to hunt WMA land once you count the tags and permit and whatnot. Actually quite a few deer in Sherburne this year. I've repeatedly had bad luck and haven't bagged any this year, but have seen 2 bucks and 9 does, as well as plenty of hogs.

Unfortunately, had a hunter startle one buck while he was walking out through my spot around 4:30 p.m. (he coughed which alerted it, then the sound of him splashing around in waders scared it off), saw 3 does on the last day of bucks only, saw 3 does too far to bag with my bow, and saw 3 does while waiting on a shot for a 2nd buck that didn't ever leave cover.

fishing isn’t just for the rich. I caught just as many bass in my first boat (which wasn’t much of a boat) as I do in my current bass boat. And guys pass by my place almost daily fishing out of kayaks.

I’m talking about the boats costing so much. I’m a disabled Veteran so I really can’t kayak, but that would be fun if I could. Here in Lake Charles the fishing sucks. My dad lives in Toledo Bend, but that’s a 2.5 hour drive for me just to go catch 3 or 4 fish in one day. I would love to fish the Lacassine pool, but need a boat to get to the good spots.

I haven’t tried the WMA hunts yet. I’m a little cautious about hunting the same area of people I don’t know or trust. I got shot at enough in Baghdad and lived so I don’t like the fact that JimBob is a few hundred yards from me coughing and blasting at anything that moves lol….

In my lifetime, 78 years, the military went from 30-06 to 308 to 223/5.56. I never had a problem getting ammo or the guns to shoot it.
Sooner or later 6.8 will be the same.

It’s actually unconstitutional to make hunting unaffordable. So the permits to hunt and everything from ammo to gun tax must never become prohibitively expensive.

Many states have incorporated access rights into hunting, fishing, and gun ownership into their respective constitutions. I don’t agree that guide hunting or preserve hunting is necessary to access waters and game hunting, but there are many dangerous practices pushed by various interest groups that threaten access to affordable hunting and fishing.

We all have to leverage our knowledge of our rights at the grassroots levels and be vocal in opposing any legislation or regulations that step on these rights and accessibility to them. The DOJ has no right to ban any components of any firearms or other tools under the umbrella of defense of self, and right to harvest wild game animals conserved and managed.

Prohibitive tax is also unconstitutional: and the existing tax must have representation, be reasonable, and benefit acts that protect and enculturate hunting and harvest of wild game and the preservation and conservation of game animals. This is all mandated by Article VI. States and Locales cannot legislate against anything protected in the Bill of Rights. Certainly not law enforcement in the ATF for example. Since the 1920’s the DOJ has been overstepping.

Per the Second Amendment: these new rifles will be available to civilians same as 5.56 is now. Sig invested a lot of money into developing these guns and they will need to get their return on investment. The materials used in these new guns is relatively new tech. So it increases cost. Eventually this tech will be available and mainstream. I like the idea that the military has access to cutting edge small arms. Being former military, I used old Colt **** for years. I love me some $450 M4s but it’s time to outmatch our enemies and not bean count so hard and give our troops a hand up. Sig is getting it done: and apparently military leadership care enough to upgrade fifty+ year old tech.

As a landowner, I have a rifle that will shoot from one end to the other of my property. And the other platforms and calibers I have numerous in military cartridge like 5.56N, .300 etc. are more than sufficient to take out enemies should they be foolish enough to put boots on ground here in my region. If we ever face such a challenge, I have no doubt our manufacturers can produce enough weapons for those of us who are capable in defending our homeland.

The current NRA magazine, American Rifleman, has a good breakdown of the weapons and ammo used by other potential adversaries. The 6.8 CC develops 80,000psi but n paper is very close to 7.62X51. In my opinion, the 6.8 CC doesn't offer enough to justify the expense of implementation and use over 7.62x51. All the other crud has nothing to do with the topic of the post.

I really think it’s all about funding, has nothing to do with a product that’s one and done. If they don’t use the money..they lose the money. Good chance only 1/2 of the appropriated funds is actually used for its intended purpose. Chinese fire drill with funding. Every time they change platforms mucho money is made by the elected elites.
