Not a direct answer, but might be useful: if you get your fingerprints digitized, you can now submit a Form 1 completely electronically. It's much easier and faster.

Costs $60 for the digital prints. Here's a link: https://www.nationalguntrusts.com/products/eft-fingerprint-file-service. You sign up here, get digitally printed at a UPS store, then they email you the print file back.

If you've already god a print card handy, you can mail it in to get scanned for $75: https://www.nationalguntrusts.com/products/fd-258-fingerprint-card-to-eft-file-service

I did the mail-in service, took about 6 days from when I sent the mail out. A friend of mine did the UPS store option and it took 2 days altogether.

I guess that's really the only viable option if I want to submit the form electronically. And it's probably easier than trying to get paper copies together. $60 isn't expensive in and of itself but it seems expensive for what they are actually doing. But I guess there aren't a lot of options out there so they can charge what they want. I wonder if Silencer Shop or Meplat Group offer that service. I already have prints on file with them.

Believe fingerprints kept on file are only good for five years. For recent individual Form 1, I used atf eforms portal and mailed in cards from a fingerprint kit off of amazon. Was approved in under 3mo.

I used Printscan and went to the UPS store to get the scan. I've used the prints 4 times and no problems. Two form 4s, a Form 1, and the brace thing. All good.

I logged into my silencer shop account today. I had to update my pictures but they said my prints were good to go. I first got my prints done for them in 2017 and I don't think I've gotten them done since. And I found out I can file through them for $50.

My buddy at Lew’s flrearms does electronic prints now and can help you out if you are out his way. He sells suppressors etc so he has knowledge on the subject.

I'll have to stop by there the next time I'm out there. I used to drive down Sullivan all the time and never knew that gun shop was there.

If you're only going to file one or two, using SS's F1 service is the easiest way to go.

SS will NOT send you your .eft (digital print) file even though they have it. Reason being is they can charge $40 for a set of print cards.

To go digital without getting off the couch if they have your prints on file already, you can order completed print cards from SS for $40 and then mail those in to have them scanned for another $65.

What's kinda dirty is that SS has been charging $15 for completed print cards forever up until this new brace rule got pushed through, then the cost went to $40 overnight. Supply and demand I guess, but... still kinda dirty.

If you consider the digital prints cost $60-$105 depending on which way you wanna go, the breakeven on the SS Form 1 service seems to be at ~2 filings, so if you're gonna do two or more it makes more sense to get your own set of digital prints that you can use forever.

Silencershop and other FFLs will not give you your EFT file. They make money off of it.

I went through printscan for eft file. I think I paid 50 or 55. FYI. There is no place for you to put your suffix in your name. I guess you can tell the person taking your fingerprints to add the suffix but I had to call printscan customer service in NY, and he edited the eft file for me. He was super knowledgeable.

If you want a free option to convert your fingerprint cards to EFT, you can try this option.

Someone on reddit made a program to do that. He also charges $20 to do the conversion for you. Printscan charges $70 I believe.

He charges $20 but the program is free if you want to compile it and run it yourself in linux. And setting up a linux virtual machine isn't tough.

I gave in. I looked at the PrintScan website and there was a location around where I would be working today. So I paid Nation Gun Trusts their fee and they called and set up an appointment for today at one of their non-ups locations. They had some issues, my appointment didn't show in their system and they couldn't pull it up, and had to call PrintScan to update their system and it took me 40 minutes to get out of there. Their site says to expect an email with the file in 1 to 3 business days. They must have been slow because I got it an hour or so later.
