You are making a mistake changing the sights after a box of the same ammo.
Low left is the shooters fault most cases.
Search the web. There are plenty of articles / videos on this.
True, and I was shooting standing with no rest or brace. But at that range and with such a good trigger I doubt I was off that much. I plan on going to a indoor range and using a rest and will try a different ammo too. I still need better sights with my eyes, outside in bright light I'm ok, inside with marginal lighting not so good. So sights WILL be changed to something I can see and being adjustable. Bottom 2 shots were aiming typical sight picture, middle and bullseye were aiming to compsate. But I did manage a good group later.

Broke my first 1911 down tonight. A Tisas 1911a1. I have to confess I really struggled getting it back together. Finally found the Hickok video and it seemed simple after that. Geeze.
Congrats on your first 1911 also! Mine is relatively easy once I found out the paperclip trick! but mines a mid-sized version.

Ok 1911 Guru's, I've got a question for y'all. This pistol has a bull barrel and a different type of recoil spring setup than I'm familiar with. So once I started taking it apart and cleaning/lubing it up I started noticed the barrel lung end of the spring assembly keeps slipping down aways and this makes it harder to assembly. I took two pictures of it in the different positions for reference. If I recall it stayed in place when I first took it apart. It needs to stay in the upper position to aide in assembly but it refuses to now. Any ideas??

What happened to the paper clip trick ? If you remove the clip before re assembly, just keep a little thumb pressure on the guide while sliding into the frame.

Youtube has plenty of 1911 vids to help with the in an outs of every model.

I strongly encourage searching for Youtube vids. Saves lots of frustration and guesswork

It will go back when the slide is on the barrel and lock up

Is it normal to think about/ dream about all things 1911's?? I'm dreaming of a 2nd one, full size hopefully. And maybe one day a long slide (10mm) to add to my collection!
Yes it is normal for a devotee of St. JMB to constantly consider the marvels of his design.

Maybe one of these will scratch an itch Bam Bam.

The Dan Wesson Bruin, a 6" long slide chambered in 10 mm.

Just some observations then I'll STFU.:)

1.. did you watch any videos on correcting low, left shooting ? Grip and trigger squeeze is the majority of the problem.

2.. before doing anything else to the sights , use the ammo that you will primarily be using.

3...did you try to adjust your factory sights ? ..... Low left......

Don't try doing any of this offhand, you need a rest

....paint the front ramp, shoot and focus where you need to put it in the rear notch to get the desired impact. Then file it down to that mark for your elevation change
Drift the rear to the right , very little at a time. Lowering the front sight will raise your impact and drifting the rear to the right will move the impact to the right. It takes very little adjustment on both sights to achieve the desired outcome..

( or spend the money to get an adjustable rear... windage and elevation)

4... the most important......if this will be a defensive use weapon...Train like you plan to fight

Aimed, 1 inch groups at 25yds is meaningless walking to/from your car, house or a parking lot at the mall, grocery, restarant etc..etc..

    FALSHOOTER,

No problem with your suggestions, I completely understand.

1.. did you watch any videos on correcting low, left shooting ? Grip and trigger squeeze is the majority of the problem.
I'm a proficient shooter with other guns unless the 1911 changes anything.

2.. before doing anything else to the sights , use the ammo that you will primarily be using.
I am trying different ammo at the range to see if that helps/hurts my groups.

3...did you try to adjust your factory sights ? ..... Low left......
Factory sights are non adjustable hence why I'm in the market for better sights.

Don't try doing any of this offhand, you need a rest
**This is the plan for next range trip and shooting indoors where weather doesn't affect ME.

....paint the front ramp, shoot and focus where you need to put it in the rear notch to get the desired impact.
Painted both sights, yellow up front with white dots on rear.

If I'm close after this range session I'll probably just leave it alone..... maybe.

4... the most important......if this will be a defensive use weapon...Train like you plan to fight
I have 6 inch steel plates which I've been working with to draw (while holding weapon) then aim and fire while still hitting target, not purely for speed.

** I now wear bifocals and getting use to them is as much of a problem as anything right now. I'm getting better, just with progressives you have a "sweet spot" where to be looking thru them.

As FAL pointed out, they are adjustable, just not in the way most people think they are.

Keep at it BAM BAM, keep at it.
