So the Mob Rules LACamper? The right is an individual right.

This is exactly why the 2nd amendment is there. As an individual you are outnumbered and will be overpowered. If you're the first house they decide to raid for guns you have zero chance. If you resist by shooting they will bring in more cops w/ armor, etc. and you have Waco all over again. You might take some with you but you will loose. If you have some warning, or you have neighbors backing you up you can successfully and peacefully resist. The authorities would have to attack a neighborhood and I don't see a local police force resorting to that.

If I had guns, I would protect myself from thugs. No one can protect themselves from police/military forces after a Katrina scenario. I would demand a warrant to search my house but I would comply. When order was restored, and stories of 2nd Amendment violations were told, I would let everyone know my story. My interaction with authorities would be on tape.

But I don't have any guns. They were all lost in that flood.

If I did own guns I would not give them up.

If I owned guns, I would build a secret room/vault in my house where they can't be found.

I would not leave a safe in the open where anyone would suspect I had guns.

I know, we aren't as dedicated as you :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: but then again i am sure you've actually been in a war zone and defended the right to begin with ...right ? .... i will say this, since the point to owning a weapon for me, is to protect my family ... 3 kids under 5, I aint about to have a gun fight at the door with police to make a point genius ...the rest of the list wouldn't exactly matter though would it ?

funny you say this... because it will most likely be the ones who have been to the war zone and defended that right that come to your door to take it away.

I don't have a family as some of you so I look at it like this... do I make a stand now and die at the hands of the cops... or get disarmed and get stabbed to death by a democrat who wants what i have?

ETA: as another poster stated. I'd be GTFO to where I wouldn't have to worry about this. This of course assumes that I know the threat of being disarmed is on the way.

Being a solider outside the wire and living your life with wife and child stateside are two different environments.

i would give them up if they had a warrant and gave me a reciept upon disarmament...
Would you resist/"fight back" if they did not have a warrant and no receipt was given; something similar to what happened during Katrina?

i would like to imagine so, but we have a 8 foot fence around the entire property, natural gas generator, fruit trees, two small doberman terriers, etc that we really dont have to get off the property... they would have to jump the fence, at what point i would already be on my roof with a .270 Weatherby Magnum..

ive already called the sheriff's office and threatened to get on my roof with a rifle when they refuse to arrest drug dealers at the car wash/dollar store/liquor store across the bayou.. the operator said, "you can't do that!" i said, "you got 5 minutes."

My fav are the "Molon Labe" crowd. When push comes to shove these people will fold.

People have too much to loose these days; their homes, jobs, vehicles, possessions, children, etc.

Not necessarily. The ATF can reference who APPLIED TO PURCHASE guns very easily, particularly if youhave every bought two handgun in a 5 or 7 day stretch (I forget which).

    Fixed.:D

I do not know whether NOPD or any other LEOs confiscated guns from people without cause. I wasn't here. I evacuated the city as everyone was ordered to do. It was a mandatory evacuation. Couldn't the police legitimately conclude that anyone who did not obey that order remained in the city for an illegitimate purpose?

Eliska, do the police or the mayor have the legal right to tell you to get off your own property?

Now, with a storm the size of Katrina bearing down on you and you live in a low lying area, and you ignore the evacuation orders, then I don't think they are required to come rescue you...

To answer the question originally posed, I would be apt to have my guns stashed around the house and garage and just give up the cheapest gun I had to be peaceful. I fully believe in my 2nd Amd. rights, however, one guy is nothing compared to a police dept. As far as the argument posed that they could find out how many guns I had ... yes, probably. But that would take time, and organization. In the days after Katrina, communication and organization were at a minimum. A lot of the police downtown were out of contact with the dept for long stretches of time, other then the people they were directly patroling with. So, in that instance, I'd say it would be tough for them to figure out how many guns I had. Especially since I have more then your average bear.

    :)

That's what that $150 gunshow special is good for.

    Very interesting thread.

Two main points that I would like to build upon are

    1. The second amendment indeed gives "we the people" the right to form organized militia specifically for the purpose of ensuring the current "state of freedom" which we all enjoy and partake in, and one in which our forefathers fought so hard and bled for. (And has been in a perpetual state of existence since their great efforts.)

Which leads me to point number...

    2. The majority of the great men that we consider the forefathers of this great nation risked not only their life, limb, wealth, and comfort, but also that of their families, whether directly or indirectly. They put all their cards on the table because they believed that strongly in their cause.

Sadly it sounds like men like these do not exist anymore. And without them, America has a very bleak future.

The more I think about this, it doesn't really matter if they come knocking on my door to confiscate my firearms....If it a "Katrina Scenario" there is a very, very good chance that I won't be home anyway and my guns will be with me as I would have evacuated with my family...My house and personal belongings can be replaced...My family cannot...Plus I live in a very rural area in which a similar scenario would be highly un-likely anyway....

Best way to not have to worry about that kind of situation is to not put yourself in it to start with....

    Bingo!

Any SHTF strategy should be fit for purpose and devoid of any singular notions.

If I even think that LEO is knocking on my door with an intent to disarm me , I'm not opening it . Are they willing to knock it down to accomplish this ? What kind of situation are we really talking about here ? Total anarchy ? Marshall law ? Military coup ? I really need a better understanding of the scenario to know how I would react .

Sadly it sounds like men like these do not exist anymore. And without them, America has a very bleak future.

Even if an individual, or a group is legitimate in protecting their guns per the second amendment, think of society's reaction as a whole.

The liberal media will say the individual or group are terrorists, fanatics, wackos, and the liberal lefties, including our elected officials, will paint a picture that the group are criminals.

If someone shoots a cop or soldier in self defense, even if they are right, then they are going to have to deal with a whole bunch of other cops or soldiers, with more numbers, firepower and equipment.

Our forefathers stuck together, they fought for a general cause with a goal of freedom in mind. Today, we don't stick together as a whole. How many of you can say your neighbors would have your side and risk their families when the wolf comes knocking at your door.

I'm not going to be a sheep but I am going to avoid the wolf. I don't have any stinking guns.;)

Yes, they knocked down numerous doors in New Orleans, after Katrina, to check for dead and survivors. The authorities made entry into all houses in flooded areas.
