    Long-story-short...

I'm looking for a reasonable, competent gunsmith in the Shreveport area to assemble an AR lower receiver for me. I can provide the mil-spec parts kit.

    1) Recommendations?

    2) About how much money am I looking at?

    Thanks!
    JC

It is very east to do yourself. I built my first one this summer and have done 3 more since then.

But I noticed that your location is BR and you are looking for someone in Shreveport so maybe this is for a friend or family member?

There might be a member in the area who would help them/you if needed and save you the cost of a gunsmith.
I would but I'm 2.5 hours from Shreveport.

    Just some other options.

There are some good youtube videos - WATCH THEM - plus it will help you get a better understanding of how the AR comes apart and what not - its VERY VERY VERY easy....

I agree with everyone else. It is not hard to do yourself. I am not a gunsmith but I would not mind helping. I am east of Shreveport about 45-60 minutes.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the heads up on the gunsmith. I'm aware of how easy they apparently are to assemble, though I've never done a full assembly myself. I've previously watched the all videos, I've read the second-amendment.com instructions, etc. I also understand the wisodm to be gained by doing it yourself.

I'm asking for a S'port gunsmith because I live in BR and my FFL buddy has my lower receiver up there. I want to shoot it when I go visit him and his family in a few weeks, but don't want to take the time out of my weekend to build my first AR lower when I could be shooting guns, telling lies or drinking whiskey. I'm also not interested in "learning" on a Noveske. Apparently, it costs about $25 to have a professional, insured gunsmith do it for me and I'm cool with that.

I'll lose my virginity on a PSA or a Plum Crazy and let everyone know how good it was.

Thank you all for the input, links, advice, etc.

    JC

Name brand really means nothing unless it's billet. They are pretty much all the same except for the rollmarks.

You are looking at about 30mins to assemble the lower (at a leisurely pace), 30secs to slap on the upper, then it's off to the range for function testing & zeroing the sights.

But, it's your money...I hope you find someone that isn't too busy to do it & does it for you at a reasonable price.

That's cool, guys. I get it. It's easy and I need to learn how to do it.

The time that I spend with old friends is worth more to me than $50 per hour.

Thanks again for answering my questions.

Go to Brownells and check out their how-to videos. Assembly of an AR is extreemly easy. The most complicated part of an AR build is setting the head space when assembling an upper and that is when you use a bolt that was procured seperate from the barrel. Save the money and have fun, build it your self. Good luck.
