Does anybody have any direct knowledge of what will be the specific changes being considered by Wildlife and Fisheries for next season. This was quoted in the Sunday paper

"Amending the designation of only “pre-1900” limitation on the list of approved weapons allowed for use in primitive weapons seasons"

Then there is also this, which sounds OK.

"For 2013-2014 season, deer hunters will be a “hunter’s choice option tag.” The season limit on deer will be six, but hunters will be allowed to use one tag to be used either for a buck or a doe, a move that could mean a hunter could take three bucks and three doe, or two bucks and four doe"

I think there trying to change the primitive season to allow any single shot hammer operated rifle, regardless of production era.

Wow, like the T/C Encore...Interesting...But I'd guess the caliber restrictions will probably stay the same. Guess we will see!

Wow- they even thought of those hunters with a death wish:

    • Allow the use of ATVs to retrieve deer on the Tunica Hills WMA.

I just noticed that suppressors are allowed when night hunting for coyotes. RS56:116 D.(3). Looks like I'll have to lighten the wallet a bit more.

This is the result of declining numbers of hunters and/or license sales and both! They(LDW&F/State), are trying to replace dwindling revenues by trying to accomodate more opportunities for more persons to buy licenses.

Gentlemen, whether you know it or not, this decline in hunting in Louisiana over the last several years is the beginning of the end for alot of gun oriented activities. And don't be so sure it doesn't affect what YOU do if you don't hunt!

I don't understand the requirement that it must have a hammer. A ruger no.1 operates the same way a browning/winchester 1885 does... so what's the difference?

Currently in Louisiana, it has to be a reproduction of a gun that actually existed and was used prior to 1875 or whatever the year is they(LDW&F) use.

This is the reason why they're doing it. There's no concrete logical reason why it has to have an exposed hammer that's just where they decided to draw the line. My guess is that an exposed hammer gun at least has some resemblance to a primitive weapon.

+1 on Emperors comment. My post is in regard to the MS law/proposed LA rules

Probably thought up by a non-hunting Bambi lover...the sound of the hammer cocking will be enough to alert poor Bambi,

    DANGER! FLEE!

    BANG! THUD!

    Nope, won't work Bambi lover!
