      Sig 228 whats the diffrences

The above is partially correct. The date inside the grip panels has nothing to do with the pistol, it just indicates when the grips were made. P228s come in four main flavors: all German, German made but US assembled, SAS (SIG Anti Snag, factory dehorned), and the P228R made from German slides...

So when did Sig become crap? Whazzup wid dat?

That is an oddity. Several threads over at SIGFORUM reference the serials...UU vs. U for an American vs. German P226, or 37A vs. G for an American vs. German P220.

So when did Sig become crap? Whazzup wid dat?

The UU-serialed frames indicate US manufacture. All of the US-made P226 frames with the UU prefix that I've seen were railed models, save for some made to NYPD and Miami-Dade PD specs. Newer German-made frames have a DE stamp. Of possible interest to LSP, SIG USA evidently got enough...

Anyone know about revolver grip caps?

Over on the S&W Forum, one oldtimer (Charlie Sherill, maybe?) talked about the grip caps being popular to avoid dinging up the grips on the steering wheel, armrests, etc. I guess anything's possible. The ivory, pearl, and stag grips seemed to start dying off here in the late '60s. My Colt...

Anyone know about revolver grip caps?

Houstonbadge.com (run by a retired HPD officer) still advertises grip caps. Most of the ones I've seen dated back to the '70s. Some were plain brass or nickeled brass; the fancier ones had the owner's badge recreated. I saved this photo off eBay a while back.

      Hey Pangris: Looky here!!

I'll see if I can dig the thread up again. That came out of a letter from Roy Jinks that someone posted on the S&W Forum a while back. Check post #14 for the letter. I seem to remember a thread devoted to 3" K frames, I'm still looking for it...

      Hey Pangris: Looky here!!

There were a couple runs of the 3" M19s. About 200 units were made up of a 3" fixed sight 19 for issue to French police investigators in the mid '60s. Another batch of 4" fixed sight 19s were made in the '80s for the Peruvian Government, the 19P. Around 1,200 were shipped to S&W's German...

      Hey Pangris: Looky here!!

Steve, just hit up one your California sidekicks. Wasn't the 3" 66 originally made for their DOJ agents? I'd go for a regular old 4" 19 or 66 in a heartbeat. What I'd really like to find is one of those 2 1/2" M10s that was made up for the Feebs and the Michigan State Police, or one of the...

Is the .38 Special outdated or inferior?

What makes you think "spraying and praying" didn't happen with sixguns too? A bad shot is a bad shot, regardless of the platform. That notion was bandied about several times after the Diallo shooting in New York, with some claiming that NYPD would've been better off sticking with their S&W...

Is the .38 Special outdated or inferior?

Actually, the .357 was touted early on as a hunting cartridge, not as a police load. Look at Doug Wesson's goal of bagging every large North American game animal with one as a publicity tour. The reason the .357 didn't catch on initially was the price. At the time it was THE deluxe...

      Anybody have a 45ACP rifle?

Steve, check out http://www.troupsystems.com. A few years back an outfit called Rhineland Arms was offering .45 conversion kits for Enfields and Mausers. They now show December '09 availability. The idea started with the WWII Brit DeLisle carbine that used the Enfield action. It was built...

      Any .357 Sig Fans here?

I've been shooting it in a P226 since 2001. I really like the cartridge, but as others have said the price of ammo is the limiting factor. The P226 .357 has been my carry gun since getting my CHL (and a car gun before that), and is about to be my duty gun. That said, my next purchase (and...

      Which of the two?

Steve, if I'm thinking of the same one, that's the Trooper Steve Coates shooting in South Carolina. We watched the dashcam video during patrol week, along with an interview with his killer. Coates was using a 4" 686 loaded with +P .38s, weight unspecified. The killer had an NAA .22 that...

      My C&R military Pistol Rigs

I've seen the Mills canvas holsters before, along with some of the Audley spring-lock holsters in military guise. Were they ever issue items, or were they made for private purchase?

      .38 Super ?

I'm but a mere neophyte, still aspiring to the levels of gun whoredom that some have attained. ;-) FWIW, I was looking at picking up a P226R 9mm for my duty gun; Br'er Steve is the one who suggested sticking with the .357 SIG.
