I used to enjoy (when I wasn't offshore) sitting at the Denny's near Oakwood Mall reading the news and drinking coffee. I'd grab a TP from the machine just outside. Then I moved away. When my employer wanted me to do some work on the Westbank, I wanted to relive this experience. I got up early to go eat breakfast as the location was just down the street from my hotel room. Imagine my shock when the waitress walks up and says "Welcome to IHOP." It was no longer a Denny's.
The Times Picayune doesn't exist anymore either. I was looking forward to the new Denny's being built on Ambassador Caffery and drinking that Millstone Coffee. Lately it's been more like drinking coffee at Mel's and reading Fox News on my phone. I'm not sure there is a newspaper worth paying for anymore. And, other news sources are more propaganda than journalism. Now Fox News is requiring that I have an account before I can finish an article. I'm sure a paywall is coming soon. I don't wish to pay for misspelled words, and broken sentences, real estate ads blaring music when I scroll across them, alerting everyone around me. Journalism leaves a lot to be desired these days, and, I refuse to pay for such an inferior product. I guess I'm destined to join the uninformed masses, as information becomes more and more difficult to access.

There have to be locally owned, non-chain coffee shops in the area that would love your business.Would recommend.

I'm a truck driving, beer drinking, pistol packing kind of guy. I don't order coffee in latin, and years ago when an Ansett stewardess offered me a scone, I had no Idea what she meant. In NO there was a little convenience store right outside my apartment complex that sold "Starter Kits" which consisted of a pipe, a piece of brillo pad, and a butane lighter. I learned this from a new hire at my job that was wearing a CANOLA cap on his first day of work. When I asked him what that meant he didn't hesitate "Cocaine Anonymous New Orleans Louisiana." I assumed he knew what he was talking about. What I'm trying to say is that Denny's was a safer place than where I lived. I could also order something there with "slam" in the title. At Mel's I usually have biscuits and gravy and hash browns. Sometimes bacon, eggs, and grits. Sometimes I can be found at T-Coons, or Dwyers, but, not very often. Jet Coffee is nearby but I don't go that way often, and, the paint isn't dry on Scooter's Coffee yet, and that seems to be a drive through place anyway. Doughnuts, danishes, muffins, and other coffee shop items are detrimental to my A1C numbers so I tend to eat a more traditional breakfast items.
