Cracked the pit up today. Half of a butt has been on about 3 hours and the ribs were just put on. Ribs will go about 4 1/2 hours. The butt goes until the bone pulls out without any resistance.

First I start with bacon grease to cook down the veggies in. Then ham and smoked sausage go in. On the side two ham hocks are being boiled in water to become tender. The water is then added to the meat and veggies and beans for cooking.
A tragedy for sure but this like most hunting accidents was a case of negligence. As Bolt Head said, always know your target and these things won't happen. If you're not sure, don't pull that trigger. Once the bullet leaves the barrel you can't call it back.
