As I understand it so far, it's a pretty broad category: anyone who has, or wants to have, NFA-regulated cool stuff.
I don't know how involved I will be in the case, myself, though. At this point, all I was asked to do is see if I could find some people who met that description...
I was recently contacted by a lawyer with the Firearms Industry Consulting Group. They want to challenge the rule that you need a CLEO to sign off on a Form 1 or Form 4 for a NFA transfer. He thinks Louisiana would be a good place to challenge it, because here we define CLEO as being the Sheriff...
Hehe... well, he wasn't "mall ninja" as much as "greasy biker." His main weapon was a piece of rope with a huge steel nut on the end of it. ..but those weren't his main problem. I'd say that was probably his giving the cops some lip while carrying meth in his pocket.
I love criminal law...
I had a case recently where my client was charged with having a switchblade under this law because he had a knife rigged to open up as he pulled it out of some kind of belt-buckle contrivance.
I was prepared to argue the case on that, but it was a misdemeanor charge. He was legitimately...
I've spent some time thinking about what is different between the two, because I agree - Clinton was a liar, but somehow not in the same league as Obama. I think it's largely the sheer audacity of Obama's lies -- they are SO huge and obvious. Clinton at least didn't insult our intelligence (as...
Peace doesn't come about by allowing evil people to do what they will. "If you want peace, work for justice." And justice requires the ability to exercise force.
And you want to quote the Bible? How about this:
Luke 22:35-37
And they did, in fact, arm themselves with swords.
Mathew...
I find the philosophy of pacifism to be morally repugnant. The only people who have the luxury of the "holier than thou" pacifistic attitude are people who let others fight, carry weapons, kill, and die to protect that luxury. It's childish.
Jesus was not a pacifist. He never held...
And if it's not practical, it should be illegal?
Maybe it IS stupid. I don't think it is, but so what if it is? What is freedom if it isn't the right to be stupid? If you aren't allowed to ruin your life because of "the greater good of the whole," you aren't really free, you're a cog...
FWIW, this is an 8th Circuit opinion, not binding on Louisiana (which is in the 5th Circuit.) I think there would have been a different result in the 5th Circuit.
I've been watching Have Gun - Will Travel on netflix, and I can't get enough. Wish they'd make a good movie out of it. Some talk about a movie version, but with Eminem as Paladin, so "good" is pretty much out of the question.
A thought that always plays through my mind when I think about the "no CHP in church" rule is this: what is there were a church that required its members to carry? Wouldn't there be a 1st amendment problem?
As a related thought experiment, I often start thinking about what such a church would...
