An armed robbery turned deadly in St. Charles Parish Wednesday morning as a woman shot two alleged intruders, killing one and wounding another.

Authorities said 25-year-old Nathaniel Evans was leaving his residence in the 1300 block of Paul Frederick Street in Luling around 4 a.m. when two men approached him with a gun and forced him back into his house.

Once inside, the suspects forced Evans and another victim, identified as 22-year-old Irene Bailey to lie on the floor.

At some point police said one of the suspects shot Evans. That’s when police say Bailey located a gun and shot both of the suspects.

Police said 24-year-old Jason Jammal Todd of New Orleans died at the scene. The other suspect, identified as 31-year-old Chris Avila of Metairie was found nearby in a grassy field – he was transported to St. Charles Hospital and was undergoing surgery Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Avila would be charged with attempted murder and aggravated burglary once released from the hospital.

Evans was also taken to St. Charles Hospital – he was listed in guarded condition.

A child was in the house during the time of the incident, but was not injured.

Police said Baily would not be charged.
