The Honey Island Shooting Range is located in the Pearl River Wildlife Management area. Since 1993, the range has been operated by a group of volunteer range officers under a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation called Southeast Louisiana Firearms Safety, Inc. (SELFS). In excess of 10,000 shooters use the range each year for a nominal daily fee of $6.00. The range is open to the public on Friday afternoons, Saturdays and Sundays. The website is http://www.honeyisland.org if you'd like to check it out. Our feedback indicates that the general public love the range and the way it is operated.
BUT, recently some of the biologist from the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries approached us to get us to change our hours of operation on certain days during the hunting season. We are asking for opinions from the general public, especially from those that have either hunted in the PRWMA or who have shot at the range, or better yet, have done both. If you'd like to give us your opinion, please go to the following survey. It will take about 5 minutes (or less) to answer the questions.
