I'm a Texas resident with a CHL and am traveling to NO this weekend with my family. We're planning on taking the kids to the Aquarium of the Americas after taking the ferry from Algiers Point, and I wanted to check in advance whether there were any reason I would be prohibited from carrying at the Aquarium. Having spent much time in NO, I definitely want to carry as usual in that city but as we'll effectively be pedestrians I won't easily have the option of securing my gun in the car if the Aquarium is posted.

On the other hand, I'm always reluctant to call in advance to ask as I don't really want to give them the idea to post it as off-limits to concealed carry. Thus, my question--does anyone know for sure about the Aquarium?

    Thanks,

    Andiceman

P.S. I was told about your forum after calling the contact number for the LouisianaCarry.Org web site. If any of you have plans to travel to Texas and have questions, feel free to ask over at the Texas CHL Forum. http://www.texaschlforum.com/

My wife wanted me to also ask about the Algiers Point ferry and the Audubon Zoo as well. Anyone know about these?

    Thanks again!

I've been to the Aquarium a few times and I don't recall seeing any firearm related restrictions. Take that for what it's worth, though.

My rule of thumb is that as long as it's not a federal building and doesn't have metal detectors, I keep it concealed.

Good to hear on that. CavalryJim, I guess that means I don't have to worry about metal detectors either.

I'm a bit paranoid about this stuff after getting turned away at the Smithsonian Air & Space museum in DC a couple of years ago due to having a small folding knife in my day-pack. If it had been a cheapie I would have tossed it but it was a nice Benchmade. Okay, two mile walk back to the hotel to park it.

I've been born and raised in New Orleans my whole life, and just recently took some time out to go through the french quarter, and I must say, it's SOO much nicer than i remember it being before the hurricane. It's cleaner, and during the day time, seems more family oriented... Def take a walk around after you go to the aquarium.

Careful at the casino. The last time I went, they had a "no gun" sign posted and it looked like it had been there for some time. (engraved metal sign)
