Question about buying pistol from Mississippi??

Lets say I want to buy a pistol from a person in Mississippi, and he wants to do a face to face transaction. Now, I live in Louisiana. Could he meet me at a ffl in slidell and transfer the pistol to me, or does he have to ship from an ffl in ms. to ffl in la???

I'm thinking no, you need an FFL... but I'm no expert. I'd have him meet me at a gunshop and do the transfer there. It'll cost you $30 but better that than a visit from ATF.

It will have to be done at a FFL in LA. You can't purchase a handgun from MS without transferring it to a LA FFL.

As BearIt mentioned to be done legally it needs to be done through an FFL on the buyers State, eventhough lots of people do a FTF Sale and you dont know where the seller is comming from or where the gun is comming from.

At the end of the day is your decition on how to handle the transaction and if you want to follow rules or just take a chance,

Yes, you can to go a LA FFL and do the transfer there.

Is that due to a MS law or a federal law? What if the situation was reversed? Could a MS buyer come to LA and buy a handgun? Does it matter if it is a private sale versus a retail sale?

Federal law, you can only recieve a handgun, or stripped lower reciever in the transfer in your own state. When the FFL makes the call to verify if you can buy, or not. If you are from another state, you will get denied.
