The gun is new. I saw it today...

But whadda you mean by, "not yet registered new?"

A gun, like a car, is not "New In Box" once it has been sold to a private person or entity (non-ffl). Once it has been sold, it is a used gun. If it has not been shot or carried, it is Like New In Box or LNIB.

ANIB = As new in Box or NIP = New in Package.

There is no registration of non-class 3 firearms in this state. An un-fired gun is still NIB, ANIB, or NIP. LNIB is used, but in perfect condition.

    JMHO. YMMV.

Is it still LNIB if my podna, on his birthday, it standing behind me at my FFL's place, and once I accept the gun, following a successful transfer, I bequeath the gun to my lucky friend and hand it to him. All of this even though he lit off fireworks in my house once?

Philosophically speaking, when exactly does the transmutation from new to like new occur? I have trouble, metaphysically, accepting it's the passing between entities. That implies an inequality, or, even worse, a caste system where the FFL holder or one entity is hierarchically dominant.

If a gun is unfired and still in excellent condition I would say new. I know there are lots of different ways of thinking but that is the way I see it. I know gun shops see it as once its sold then its not new anymore....but on the NON-FFL market I still see people say its new in box if its unfired, with box and still in excellent condition.

Nice Glock. Wish I had the extra money to get it right now.

This would then be a LNIBSP.

The SP stands for straw purchase. :)
