I'm looking for scrap steel, free or real cheap to build targets.

Anybody know of some scrap yards around the 985, 504, or 225 area codes?

You would be better off buying from a steel yard. Carbon steel in flat bar or tubing is affordable. In B R captiol steel and superior steel come to mind. Scrap yard are tuff to buy from.

Try Topcor Belco in Prairieville, PAX inc in Gonzales and other local fabs like Volks....I know they scrap large quantities of steel and probably would give you what you ask for (in scrap)

+1 I would look for a fab shop or yard, they usually have a HUGE dumpster were they throw away all the stuff that is under a certain size so you could find some real good stuff if you dont mind diving to search for it. At the same time if you knew anybody at a dock at the port most rigs send their "scrap metal basket" once its full so they should be able to hook you up as well.

Or as mentioned before if you dont wish to deal with the hastle just buy it new, they well even cut it into smaller more managable pieces for you or find a local welder who migh have some throw him a couple bucks and he will probably even make it for u.
