I am looking at a supposedly 92F beretta for sale. The guy lives a fur piece away
and I want to know wth I am looking for when I go to see it.

I have done some research and as far as I can see a 92F was made before 1985.
And anything after is an FS model. Then I see for sale on gunsamerica a few 92F
models are for sale but are made after 1985.

I also found that the pre 1985 beretta 92F had a rounded trigger guard compared
to the square front trigger guard adopted so as the shooter could use finger better
    to hold for better accuracy.

I need to know is their any other difference in them.I can not find length on the
92F.I see the 92FS is 8.5inches overall and the bbl is 4 and 7/8".

I just need to know from the beretta experts, wth am I looking for to determine it
is an FS or plain F model. And how do you date it.

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter:)

The F and the FS are same size in slide and barrel length.

The F's could have a slide failure and as a result it could hit the shooter in the face. The slide material specification was changed, a channel was cut into the lower left underside of the slide and the hammer pivot pin head diameter was changed to fit into the channel to act as a stop in the event of a failure and the model designation was changed to FS.

If it is an F and you want to change it to an FS, there's usually at least a few slides for sale on the Beretta forum. I built an M9 upper to run on my 96 that way. Use the bigger hammer pin and you're good to go.

yea, leadfoot.I do remember reading that about the slide hitting some one from the frame
cracking or something like that. Can you visible see the groove cut out for the channel
for the pivot pin from the outside?Or if I took it down,I should be able to see it easier?I
would like to see a pic of the F with no channel and the new FS with the channel.I can
not find any pics of that. Thanks leadfoot. That is what I was looking for:)

Yes, the F could have a slide failure. If your did, you will be in the company of the approximate 14 others that had that happen. According to numbers I located on the Internet only 2 of the 14 failures occurred before the 10,000 round mark.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. I carried a 92F for a while, and it's slide is still in one piece.

You will not shoot enough, hot enough, ammo to see the slide come off. If your that concerned I believe Beretta will swap out the locking lugs for u gratis.

Very nice.Yes that is the information I needed.I am almost 100% it is a 92F.
Going by the pics and info.i had him send me a closer pic of the slide off and
compared it and the dust cover to you guys pics.

Thanks for all the help sirs:)I think I am definitely going to get it.I had a Beretta
years and years ago,but only for a short period of time.I'm guessing it was a
92F also because it did not have a slant dust cover. You know how you always
sell that one gun you miss:( Well, that was mine.SO hopefully I will replace it
for about half of what I spent on the first one ,which was around $650.

Thanks again everyone for the help:)

yea,he says he trade me for my GP100..

How much you think the D is worth?

Mine was like $300-$350 NIB w/NS way back in 1997. My dad had an FFL so in sure it was an overrun gun or something because it was a good deal.

I don't know how much they are new now. I don't know if they make D version 92s any more.

But one good thing about beretta, they like chevy. They never go
up but they never go down either :)

on ebay for it.SO I for sure want $575 now:)
