    Leupold 1.5-4x20.

This setup works great for SE Louisiana, because most of our shots are fairly close. 1.5 power for hogs or home defense, 4x for more distant shots. No need to be the dude with the 6-24 scope for the swampy Motherland.
Zero at 25m (27.34 yds) and you’re set.
The attached file ‘splains it perfectly.

I've tried Acogs, Eotechs, Aimpoints, regular scopes, but the one I keep coming back to is a Cmore Tactical Railway that combines a red dot with an integrated normal A2 rear sight. It's locked in the back of a safe for the moment, but old photos below. You would have to search for this model, as I don't see it on the Cmore website. Still listed on many other sites including Armslist and AliExpress.

L to R: EoTech, Acog, Aimpoint, Compact 4x standard scope, CMore.

I think the absolute best buy in an LPVO right now is the Gen I Vortex PST 1-4x. At around 250, you can't beat it. Eurooptics has them. Next step up in price, but not quality would be the rt6, which is a very good scope with a 6x top end. Up from there would be the Steiner p4xi with p3tr reticle. Just keep in mind that it's better to have a higher quality 4x than a cheap 6x. Magnification doesn't help if you can't resolve the image.

My 12.5 and 13.9 wear ACOGs. My 14.5 has a Gen II 1-6x razor on it. Quality over quantity. If you can stretch you budget a bit, the Gen II PST is a killer scope, although heavy. Perhaps you should consider the used market.

Strike eagle 1-6x or 1-8x with illuminated ArBDC. Works like a charm, very rugged, great warranty (should you go bananas on it) and BDC hash marks work great if you zero according to manufacturer. Bullet weight will cause a bit of shift, but your on minute of man out to 600 with nice clear 1x and illuminated horseshoe.
