Set out to make a monkey fist with 1" ball bearings I got from a machine shop, but kept making other stuff; thanks to youtube videos. I made the kubaton from found rebar, so it cost me under 25 cents for two feet of paracord. The pull hangs out your pocket for easy deployment. And a bracelet that takes 2 minutes to make and only seconds to untie for 10 feet of cord. The monkey fist has a really long tail since I didn't know how much cord I would need. I'll probably cut it down some and do something else with it. Seems like a good, CHEAP, time consuming hobby.

It doesn't have to be perfect when you first make it. You just have to keep working the slack out from the beginning until it looks uniform. A pair of hemostats help with this.
