Bump is just a term. You could say back to the top. It is any response to your own thread to keep it near the top of all the posts.

Many readers use the "What's New" to organize posts for reading. A seller wants maximum exposure to their For Sale thread so they "Bump" their own thread by making a new post usually with "Bump", "TTT (To The Top)", etc. This moves their thread to the top of the reading list.
