I'm going to pick up my XD9 subcompact today after work and I would like to get it Duracoated. Since I couldn't get the OD color I wanted with the night sight package I'll have to just get it painted how I want. Would it be better to get it Duracoated before it is fired or does it really make a difference?

    Now the second part:
    Which looks best to you?

Here is how the gun looks now.

I want to paint the bottom half in OD (or similar) green.
I'm considering getting the slide a titanium or greyish color similar to this, but not as shiny.

Or maybe I'll stick with black and OD green like this.

    What do ya'll think?
P.S. This will be my CCW weapon.

I'd just leave it black, at least for a while until it starts to show some signs of wear.
You couldnt get the color you wanted with nite sites? I would have got the color of choice, then upgrade to nite sites, instead of the opposite.

Looking on Springfield's site they don't even have an option for OD green with Nite sights on them. I figured the price would be about the same to go the route I'm going now or to get the gun, get the night sights, then have them put on.

oh, no worries here. :) Just a suggestion. If you Duracoat it you may as well do it asap, before you get used to having the gun every day & feeling naked without it while its getting coated. hehe.

    I'd leave it black myself.

    Another vote for hot pink.

I am collecting up part for a hot pink AR build myself.

I was kindof thinking of doing a duracoat startup.

Are there many people in LA doing it professionally?

I have a guy working for me right now that is extremely well versed in firearms (talking like Olympic qualifier type), that I could have hitting gun shows and showing off colors and taking orders. Seems like a decent side line. If I do that, I was also thinking of becoming a Dixie Outfitters (Southern T-shirts) authorized distributor)

I could have a 3 or 4 table layout- duracoat, T-shirts and LA Carry / BSC info booth. Might even stock a few Glock/AR mods/accessories.

Duracoat is a LOT of work to do it right. You also need to be willing to let the gun sit for 3 week min. befor shooting, taking it apart, putting it back together or whatever.

I got the name of a shop in in Denham Springs from this site that does it. I'm not going to do the work myself.

I'd leave it like it is. Make sure you like it & don't wan't to sell it. I just like to live with things a little bit before making changes. Not to Dis your pistol but I know 2 guys that didn't take to the XD.

Hot pink. If you ever have to use it -

    1. Hot pink is tactical. It will confuse the BG. They will wonder why you are pointing a hot pink water gun at them.

    2. The women on your jury will think you carried a cute gun.

    3. They also might think you are gay, and that the attack was a hate crime.

    Trifecta!

    This. +1

I kinda want a pink gun now. Heh.

You guys laugh. I am getting that exact gun, and having it Duracoated pink for my wife. Damn shame I'll never be able to bring it to the range or anything to shoot. It'll either be a XD9 SC or Glock 26.
