Finish on a 1911 slide?

Well I have a kimber 1911 ultra carry that I now love after a extractor change and a couple of new mags. it has an aluminum frame that looks pretty good, but the slide needs some lovin'. I was thinking about getting someone to duracoat it, or something of the sort. I want info about anyone that does this around lafayette. also, what sort of time should I expect to be without my gun? I have this for a carry peice so I don't want to blue it all pretty just to get it scratched etc. Please give me any information because I just want to keep it from rusting and keep it working...

Dont duracote it, it will flake off! Send it to ROBAR and get in np3 or robar coated

Is this personal experience or something you've heard ? Just asking because when done right I've never seen that happen. Ever
