Fishing From Shore

I moved here from up north and always fished from shore my entire life. How dangerous is it to fish from shore down here with you having Gators and all. Something I need to be concerned about or not really?

Gators rarely mess with people. If you fish salt water you do not have to worry about gators much at all. The most Dangerous thing when bank fishing is other people.

I wouldn’t worry about gators. Keep an eye out for snakes though.

Lots of news lately about people getting killed by gators.
Don't worry but be wary. Depends on where you are fishing at.
A" BIG "gator can lay in real shallow water and you won't see it till it jumps at you.

used to fish down off highway in grand isle by the 'deep hole'. no issue with gators: just watch for snakes and drunk drivers,,,not sure if it is still there. used to fish city & Audubon as a kid, you did need to watch for gators there. also Bayou Segnette, there you need to watch out for snakes and gators.

Thirty years ago I would fish Twin Canals from the bank and from a pirogue. Almost as many gators as mosquitos. They were docile but would follow my catch right up to the bank where I stood.
Down toward Lafitte and Barataria there were also places to crab and fish. Some for a small fee.
I'm sure things have changed, but someone here will know the latest situation.
I could tell you about many close gator encounters and I still have all my limbs. :}
