From Motor Trend Toyota to Replace 100,000 engines.

Buddy bought the 2010 Tundra with the 4.6 V8 had it 14 years sold it to his son. Wanted another Tundra, but just couldn't with the current option so he ordered a F150 with Coyote engine. I'm going to hang onto my 2016 Tundra with5.7 as long as possible. Hope to get 400k miles out it.

Exactly. Honda lost my business going with all the little dinky turbocharged engines in nearly everything now. Just drop a simple trouble free long lasting 2.5 liter 4 banger in there and be done with it.

I almost bought a Ridgeline a month ago. While it had a n/a v6, I just couldn't see myself in one. I basically need a car with a bed.

I agree on a simple n/a engine. It's unfortunate the Titan is in its last year of production.

The 10 speed still bothers me in the f150's but the coyote is amazing. It would of been a hard choice between that and a Titan if I wanted fill size.

I did not like the idea of the 10 speed either but my '21 F150 (totaled at 50k miles) had it as does my '22 (23k miles so far) and it seems to work very well. I heard it was developed in conjunction with Chrysler Corp and GM to help keep up with the socialists green agenda.

Mine clunks sporadically and does not engage well initially when the truck has been sitting for more than a couple of days.

My '21 did clunk occasionally when downshifting to 5th but the '22 seems gtg so far. But now that you mention it, the '22 does seem to kinda "drag" momentarily when cold. I get extended warranties now b/c of all of the current technology in the new vehicles.

I work on cars daily, mostly wrecked newer stuff.

Everything post covid has taken a sted down in quality. No matter what brand or what part, everything is not as good.

I have had 3 fords now with the 10speed. My 18 mustang gt had some issues (tailshaft slack at 20k miles)and Supreme ford in slidell would not cover it, so I sold the car (I had it for a year and it was time). Also had an 18 expedition 3.5 eco with the 10 speed, not really any problems I can remember, had that one for about 40k miles. Currently have a 21 explorer 2.3 eco with 10 spd. Seems to be ok, had it since new and now has about 36k on it.

I would not trust a turbo engine from anyone save ford. N o one else has put the rd and time into getting them right. Plus putting a turbo engine in a truck and expecting good gas mileage is a fallacy if you plant to tow or haul. Mileage will be worse than the v8 option, as once the load increases so does the boost. I like boosted engines, daily-ed a 02 lightning for many years with 0 issues. Planning on getting a newer f150 with the 5.0 and putting the 3L whipple on it...

Been an avid Toyota advocate since 1984, but now, I hear, Toyota will no longer offer V6 in Tacoma - it really needs it! I watch Scotty Kilmer, a longtime Toyota fan, on YouTube, and agree with most of his rants. Remodeling kitchen, looking to find a used in-town hauler now. No Jeep or any other Chrysler product. No turbo; no CVT, no AWD or 4wd.

Toyota and Lexus are at the top of any automotive long term reliability ratings, like for 10 years. JD Power or Consumer Reports and more. It sure isn't Ford, Chevy, or Dodge/Jeep.

Past long term - yes. We'll see how they stack up after several years of turbo-charged low displacement engines. If anybody can make it work, they can. But I still prefer a good old V-8 with fuel injection. Guess I'm hopelessly old school .

I am stuck on the reliability of Toyota ... but really miss the throaty lope and roar of a late 60's Detroit V-8. My first new car was a '67 GTO, 400 cu in w/ 4 in the floor - loved it - but so did a lot of others. Stolen and stripped, took 9 weeks to get a transmission. A year later, found drive shaft on the ground one morning- guess they got surprised trying to get transmission. About a month later, the whole car went missing - never seen again.

I've been a loyal Toyota fan and customer for a long time with Tundras, Tacomas, and Highlanders. I was disappointed in the new turbo engines for both trucks. Those EPA guidelines pushed them to this. This is what happens sometimes with radically different engines.

I do believe they will sort things out eventually. Toyota has been a conservative and behind the times company this century. Everyone complains about how outdated the trucks are, and the length of time between the refreshes (also include the 4runner), but keeping everything basic led to good reliability in my opinion. Chevy, Ford, and RAM are always coming out with something new and always having problems with them.

Older Toyotas are like the first 3 generations of Glocks. Lots of them still around getting hate for being bland and not glittery. It’s one of the very few vehicles that can have high mileage but still have plenty of meat in the bone.

I just read today, no more v8 Hemi for Dodge in the 1500. They are going down this dumb route too. Looks like anyone who needs a real truck better get a 2500. 1500s are reserved for weekend boat towers and hardware store vistors.

And those wishing for Ford to bring back the 6 speed, why? My 2010 F150 6 speed died at 98 thousand miles. Towed a 6000lb RV 4 times and it killed it.

Pretty sure that was the triton engine. But the next year they nailed it with the coyote 5.0 and a 6r80 trans

They should take a larger CU NA I6 route with a eco option to run 4cyl and design a transmission around the engine with 8 speeds with hilow inline CV transmission. So the engine speed dictates hilow with a electronic tow and eco power band. They can spike the dynamic compression and run DOHC. You could get it to run on low octane pump gas comfortably with compression in the higher octane ranges. The cylinder size could be large enough to provide high torque values and not require high fuel consumption. It could also use a ram air intake which would require an engineered hood scoop. Most modern vehicles have inefficient intakes. The intake manifold would need to be large and have a 3D printed design with few airflow obstructions. Running two high atomizing injectors per cylinder at higher pressures would reduce fuel consumption and increase efficiency. All old tech except the transmission. And most of the hilow transmission components would be old tech using modern materials and manufacturing methods. Kind of a hydro-matic centrifugal design with a push pull belt to a 8-speed CV setup. The CV belt could be quite large and would hold up to towing and high torque applications.

unfortunately i have 2010 and i already have problems, damn sensor gets wonky always goes into limp mode. Though the main computer says no issues. So i just reboot by dcing the battery

Ive got a 21 tacoma and I love the V6. totally trouble free. However, Ive had toyotas for decades and I still havent seen anything from them that was as good as the 22R

The 3rd Gen V6 is good to go
