is there any real difference? i know the height difference, placement, visual, etc but is there any real advantage to having one over the other?

basically im trying to decide between a low profile gas block and forend mounted sight vs railed gas block and gas block mounted sight

I know I went with this:

I figure the gas block is going to take up X amount of weight and space anyway, might as well put it to use. I am not using the section of rail that the rail mount sight would have been on, but why have it used up unnecessarily?

Also, I think the overall look of the rifle is much sleeker this way.

surely another option. that would save some money as well since there is no need to purchase a separate gas block and the two in one units are usually only a few dollars more...

One good thing about mine is that the set screws actually work their way partially into the taper pin holes. MUCH harder to knock it out of alignment with that method, in my opinion.

This is just my opinion -
I'm a little into sight radius. Sight radius should be as long as you can get on a given rifle. On an M4gery the FSB could be moved towards the muzzle a bit for my taste - ala mid length.
Polar moment of inertia says keep the weight off the ends for a quicker moving rifle.
I think sight radius would be more important than the little bit of weight forward.
I like irons & fixed FSB right now anyway.

My front sight has never caused a lick of trouble, even though its all low tech and doesnt fold or move around. I never had a problem with it obscuring my eotech, its a non issue since I got a Larue Eotech mount which puts the front sight way down in the bottom of the window and gets the optic up into perfect position.

That new ARMS FSB is pretty cool, but i honestly don't see the point of having flip up front sights. i like to have the flip up rear for co-witnessing, makes me more confident that my optic is still zeroed.

The reason I want a flip front sight is because I'd like the ability to swap a holographic sight with a scope without having to worry about the front sight interfering with the latter
