Just wanted to throw this out there to show the brand name fanboys that no firearm manufacturer is infallible.
Buddy at work bought a new Geissele super dooty (lol) and after adding bells and whistles and admiring it from afar and showing off his $2000 rifle for months on end, finally decided to go shoot it. Never fired a round. It wouldn’t fire…said it would only leave light strikes or no mark at all on the primer.
He was so butthurt. It clean knocked the wind out of him. He confided in me last week. He asked me to take a look before he went through all the trouble and risk of sending it back so of course I did. I was not impressed.
So, fast forward to yesterday, put it on the bench and stripped it down. Set the lower on a vise block to have a look at the fire control group. I do like Geissele triggers. This one had plenty of hammer spring. I doubted that was the problem. Ok, on to the firing pin. Pulled the retainer pin and the firing pin wouldn’t drop free. Tapped the carrier on the bench, still stuck in there? Hmmm…
If I had to guess, I’d say they must pack their carriers in aluminum shavings and just neglected to blow this one out before assembly. It was chock full of shards and apparently a few were wedged in there between the firing pin and the inner wall of the carrier. You see something new every day I reckon.
Anyway, blew it out with the air hose and oiled it up. Dumped the trigger group to make sure no shavings had migrated there. (Btw, the pics don’t show anywhere near the volume of shavings I removed) Blew out the gas system and reassembled the rifle. Stepped out the back of the shop for a quick Magdump… all good.
I want to assure you guys, I’m not knocking Geissele at all. Nor would I say anything negative about Colt, BCM, Daniel Defense, yada yada, you get the picture. I’m just pointing out that any of them can have problems and just because you’re buying a major brand name doesn’t make it immune.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself!!!! Lol joking…

You are correct!!! Just cause it’s high $ don’t mean it’s gonna run, although I have never personally heard of a geisslie not running, lol not even on the wide web!!! He must have gotten a unicorn for sure!!! Not that it matters bud did it have a “rebar” bcg? Again that’s why we dedicated shooters say get a good gun and spend a lot of time behind it and run a lot of rounds to verify reliability and function, don’t assume a Gucci gun will run…. With that said again this is the first I have heard of a geissele trouble

Couldn’t agree more. There is always a chance of QC missing something, no matter the manufacturer. Hell, I’ve had more problems with my Colt rifle than with any other brand, including “low-end” manufacturers like Stag Arms, PSA, and Anderson. I’m not knocking Colt at all, just giving my experience to prove your point.

Seems like your buddy got lucky compared to most new Geissele owners. I was just reading last night on M4carbine that Geissele is having some QC issue right now and selling non functional rifles to some. A lot of issues with incorrect chamber sizes and some guns not being able so chamber basic m193 or m855 and others swallowing rounds whole and giving light strikes. Some saying they chambered everything except 69gr and up. I would maybe check the headspace on your buddies gun even if it’s running just to be sure.

Hopefully Geissle gets it together if they are truly having wide spread issues. I’ve always like the super duty’s but just felt better could be had at that price point. They are also the only ones I know selling a $300+ bcg. I couldn’t see myself paying that when BCM, SOLGW, or Colt BCG’s are more than $100 cheaper and so highly regarded by almost everyone

Yup, first thing I did was pull out my gauges and check, based on what he told me was going on. Headspace was a go.
I still wonder what’s up though.. I’m wondering if there’s a disgruntled employee walking around assembly at Geissele, intentionally mucking up the builds. If you think about it, that’s all it would take. I mean, how on earth would a finished carrier wind up with enough aluminum shavings inside to bind up the firing pin?

Old thread, and I just stumbled across it. Sorry to be late to the show, BUT I thought these rifles were test fired before shipping, at least a basic function test. Obviously not in this case. I have a Geissele trigger in my patrol rifle-Love it !! But I have no other experience with the products they produce. I wouldn't let this one incident deter me from buying anything from them.

I bought a Ruger P 345 45 cal pistol years, I took it apart before I ever thought about going to shoot it. Good thing too, it looked like they scooped up metal shaving off a machine shop floor a filled the grip assembly with it. I shocked me how much metal was in that thing. That just confirmed my habit of cleaning before banging! lol I don't believe any name brand anything is better just due to the name on it. I judge for myself or find out from someone I trust what they have found out themselves about product "X". Glad you got it fixed for him, but I've seen similar situations.
