I was thinking of coupling a 20 rd mag next to my 30 rd on my AR filled with bullets meant to do more than yaw and disappear when they hit barriers. That way, if I did have to take a shot through something, I could switch mags in 1.5 seconds and have some versatility.

I have never looked for ammo of this type- suggestions?

    LC,
I have shot through wood (2x4 & trees) with 5.56 / .223. I have to say I was supprised by how well it did. Looked like 1/4 drill holes only better. .45ACP handgun went through & blew out more of the 2x4 back.
Anything FMJ or FMJ with green tip mil surplus. Some are steel penetrator core. The 7.62x39 is better on sandbags that the 5.56 according to reports. .308 is suuposedly better than those 2. Do a test for yourself if you want to be sure.

    Edit:
A had 2 different guys tell me that FMJ was better in an AR because it gives you more options. Both were guys that have been there done that.
