not sure if this is the right place for this question but hopefully some of you can point me in the right direction.
I have never used a GPS before and will be hunting in an area this year that i am not familiar with and it just seems like a good idea to have a GPS. I am looking for some recomendations on a good entry level, from a user stand point, hand held GPS unit. thanks for any and all suggestions

Magellan eXplorist seemed to be the best for hiking/hunting and user friendly use. I bought a Magellan Triton 1500 and it is a pain to work with, especially when I have to drag out my old windows run PC to update it. I haven't bought maps for mine yet but that seems to be the way to go unless you learn how to make your own maps on your computer. I use mine to mark spots I like, leave a trail of bread crumbs when I go off the main trails, and for the Mil grid coordinate system. Mine retails new for a lot more than I bought it used for, however, looking back I should have just bought a cheaper, more user friendly one like the kind I just mentioned. That being said, you could do just as well learning how to use a map and compass and keeping accurate pace count. GPS is more useful in the dark.

For off road only use, you really don't need a map system gps.
See if you can find an old coordinate gps in a pawn shop and save yourself some money.
Just make sure it has "bookmark" or save my location coordinates settings.
I still use a 12 year old garmin hand held and it always leads me back to my truck.
