This past weekend, my wife and I completed our 2nd Guns & Gis camp in Mandeville.

The class is put on by black belts Joao Assis, Greg Anderson and Greg Lapin (formerly of VATA Training).

The format essentially consists of 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). ~3-4 hours on the range in the morning and ~3 hours on the mats in the evenings at Greg Lapin's gym, Vida BJJ in Mandeville.

In both classes, there were attendants all the way from having never shot a gun or put on a gi to competition shooters and BJJ black belts.

The classes are absolutely amazing but what makes them extra special is what happens outside of the curriculum. Catered dinner, grilled steaks, bonfires, camaraderie, lifelong friendships are formed here. The instructors are all absolute savages both on the range and on the mats and their passion and attention to detail are up there with some of the greatest trainers I've ever known.

My wife and I only had literally 1-2 BJJ classes before our first class in March and absolutely fell in love. This time, we've been training BJJ since March and the entire experience was night and day from the first class but invaluable in showing us what we had learned and also that there is so much more to learn.

If you are in the area (or even if you aren't), these classes are a must if you even have the slightest interested in Brazilian jiujitsu.

At the end of Day 2 and Day 3 on the range, everyone (including the instructors and cadre) participate in a walk back drill, starting at about 25 yards with two attempts at each distance to hit an A/C steel. Last time, I made it to the 3rd distance (maybe 60 yards). This time, I emerged victorious. My wife was able to make it all the way to the end as well, dropping out after 27 other class members.

I ran my EDC setup, a Shadow Systems MR920L with an LASConcealment holster on a Phlster Enigma and it was flawless, even with some mucked up magazines from rain the day before.

Greg and I used to teach together for a very large cadre. He knows his gun stuff and how to break it down. Always enjoyable with him on the range.

A buddy of mine who had been a BJJ Black Belt for a really long time, and a serious bad ass with two gyms, was sitting with me one day and I said "You see Lapin has a gym ? Whatcha think ?" This guy is super critical and never says things he doesn't mean. He says "Yeah, I saw him, he knows his $hit, he's good."....I've never heard this guy compliment anyone, lol....So apparently his rolling is on par too, for my buddy to say it. Really impressive he got both skillsets down.

Ironically, your name came up in conversation that evening at dinner at Trey Yuen with Tommy.
