Help Identify This Part

Hey shooters! Found this part in my late grandfather's safe. Has a piece of glass inside of it (as shown in last picture). He was very big into M1 Carbines and Mausers, but I have never seen anything like this before. Please help identify it! Thanks

Possibly part of a "trench" periscope?

From another board it was identified as a training aid that reflects the sighting picture so that the trainer can see the same thing the aimer is seeing.
