Ok, so it is my birthday Friday, and I plan on spending a good bit of it on the water. I have been catching a few on Wallace Lake, and I know a couple private ponds where I would be sure to catch some bass, but I wanted some ideas on other places to go.
I have only tried Cross, Bisteneau and Black Bayou once each (for bass, anyway), and stuck out. That was a few years back, though. I have a sticker to fish Cross, but since all I have is a trolling motor, I would want to put in at the right place, and I am not sure exactly where that is. Bickam Dickson is too small/boring. I have tried the Red River by Clark's marina a couple times, with no luck, but that is probably because they were deep and I like shallow fishing.
Ok, here is what I like- working shore lines and structure, 0'-6' water, stick baits, crank baits and topwater poppers/torpedos. I do not like plastics. Yes, I am weird, I know that is what people catch them on, I just don't like them. Don't bother trying to extoll their virtues. I would rather get skunked doing the kind of fishing I like than fish another way. Oh, and no live bait/panfish, etc. Once in awhile I will get a wild hair and throw some chicken livers after some cats, but I do not fish for food, I enjoy the hunt.
Ok, all that said, anyone have any leads on where would be good to look for some shallow water bass with crankbaits in a small, slow boat (not too far from a launch, that mean)?
I know fisherman don't like to give out their secrets, but like I said I am a catch and release man, and plus it is my birthday. What do you say?
