Has anyone ever heard of this issue?

I have a brand new Springfield GI, that doesnt seem to want to load Winchester Hollow Points. I was told by a couple people, that some 1911's dont like hollow point (HP) ammo. I was using the single stack mag that came with it, and I am going to look into a few other magazines that might do better with the HP ammo.

Also, I was told that for some reason, some HP's work better than others due to the amount of curvature on the round's tip.

So, if you have any news about this particular issue, or if you have ever even heard about it, let me know! For now I'm just shooting ball ammo anyway, so it works fine.

1911's by nature don't like hollow points. When they were designed, HP ammo didn't even exist! Not alot has changed in the design since then, either. High end 1911's (Wilson, Kimber, etc) usually have modified feed ramps to accept HP's.

You can either use PowerBall ammo as mentioned, or take it to a 1911 specialist and have them rework the feed ramp. Please do not attempt to do it yourself! Shooter's Club in Metairie are damn good with 1911s.

My 1911 has issues with HP. Occasional ftf. The factory manual states that the ramp is cut for ball ammo.

I didn't know Shooter's Club did this. They seem so unorganized over there. Any idea on turnaround time?

I've been thinkin of sending mine up to Clark in N. Louisiana. Been thinking for 6 months. I don't like the thought of that pistol out of my sight.

I'd makesure you get their regular gunsmith to do the work. One of their counter jockeys mangled an install of some meprolight sights on my custom II.
Nice kd, but he shouldn't be allowed near the tool bench. They forgot to give me my old sights back as well.

I'm not bashing SC by any means, just make sure you get their regular gunsmith to do the work.

I love their selection of AR parts, BTW.

My (very) old colt used to have problems w/ hollow points. I switched to Remington H.P.s and did much better.
My new Springfield (loaded model) runs fine with everything so far. Polishing the feed ramp didn't help my old colt (though it certainly didn't hurt) but swapping mags did seem to help a little. The Remington hp's had a smaller hole and followed the shape of a jhp.
Try Nick's shooting range in Garyville for 1911 work...

Some things to try with feeding problems... Get a good mag, I'd recommend a wilson combat. Get your feed ramp polished. Another round that would be good to try if you dont like the PowerBall is a Federal EFMJ, which means expanding full metal jacket. I used them before...they are good just a little harder to find.
