My son has a Weatherby rifle that he wants to have the barrel threaded . No other work needed , just thread the barrel . He thinks it's going to be terribly expensive and I think he's looking for an excuse to buy another gun . :D
Any ideas on what this job might cost ? Baton Rouge area if that matters .

Should be $100-$150 depending on gunsmith and gun. Make sure the barrel is thick enough to thread a should on before wasting your time making an appointment and traveling.

I've got a CZ 455 barrel in for threading at Class 3 Machining as we speak, $75 plus shipping both ways.

Last local quote I had was $150 + $20 more for the protector, seemed high. I can send it off and have it done for significantly cheaper, kinda crazy

I’ve been using the same machinist for about a decade? And he’s always charged $50 per barrel. He’s also done some of them attached to the action with no problems. Sometimes if the barrel is well tapered it will have to be cut at a point where it’s thick enough. Sometimes that makes it not worth threading. Tread/thread with care.

Where is this? Does he just do it for you as a friend or would he do it for others?!
