I want to rig up something that will detect when the power has been restored to my house from the utility company. I'm thinking it should be some sort of inductive pick-up with a wireless transmission inside my breaker box that can be monitored in the house.

I've seen "energy usage monitors" similar to what I have in mind, but I don't need to be that fancy. I just need an idiot light to tell this idiot to go out and disconnect the generator.

Any ideas on this? Or maybe any product recommendation? Thanks.

What are you running off of your generator ? Is it connected to your house in any way or are you using cords ?

Everything in the house except the air conditioning runs off of the generator. I couldn't afford a whole house unit, so it's a portable.

The generator is connected to a feed box wired into the breaker box with a manual lockout switch (you can't have both the generator and the utility supply on at the same time because the lockout switch prevents that).

Since I am usually working and away from the house during these events, it falls to my wife to handle the generator.

Look for street lights to be on lol

Or if your electronic meter had numbers on it or not
I live on the edge of a feed line. The street lights are on a different leg. Checking the meter would be fine, except who wants to sit there and stare at the meter all day?

I have an emporia power monitor on all my breakers in the breaker panel. When the power goes out it send me a notification. It's basically an amp clamp on all the breakers, I have the vue 2 but they just came out with the vue 3. I had so many breakers I had to add a second monitor as a sub panel. It connects wireless to your router and you just set it up with the app.

The unit it's powered off of a breaker you tie it into. If you put it on a main leg it will show through a notification that the power is down or you can make your own alerts for when power is restored, Best part is you can compare your daily usage to what the power company says you use.
