I have a S&W .38 model 37 and it needs to be refinished.
I have been searching but can not find alot of pics of wheel guns being duracoated. Is there a reason for this?
I'm thinking of getting someone to duracoat it with some sort camo. Any input or pics would be great.

just off the top of my head I'd say it has a lot to do with the fact that they spend a lot of time in holsters. Spray coatings are not the best choice for that, any of them. Second would be that they end up with a wear ring around the cylinder.

Yeah I don't think there's anything I can do to stop a ring mark. I know someone getting into duracoating and it would only cost me the paint. But I don't want my gun screwed up at the same time. I was thinking about haveing it parkerized but this guy really wants to paint it. So at this point I'm just toying with the idea.

It should be parked, then painted. Duracoat/guncoat does much better on a rough surface. Plus when the paint chips or wears, you still have protection under the paint.

I like Guncoat on hanguns a little better cause they are small and fit in the oven. I find its a little tougher than duracoat.

However whatever you use, be prepared to touch it up every couple of years.
