Police Arrest Two After Scheme Turns Into Armed Robbery
The victim was getting gas on Fremaux Avenue when he was approached by two men, Tommy Curtis, 31, and Marcus Jones, 35, who asked him if he wanted to buy an Apple iPad for $120, police said.
Curtis and Jones pulled an iPad out of a box, showed the victim that it worked and allowed the victim to interact with it, police said.
Investigators said the victim told the suspects that he would buy it, but had to get money out of the ATM.
According to police, when the victim went inside to get the money, Curtis and Jones hurried and swapped out the iPad with a stripped laptop with an Apple logo taped to it.
Police said when the victim returned with the money he realized the scheme, but was robbed when Jones brandished a gun and demanded the money.
