Man involved in wreck with D.A.R.E. vehicle faces DWI charge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 29-year-old Zachary man was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk after the truck he was driving collided head-on with a sheriff deputy's unit Monday night.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Jacob Rester failed a field sobriety test immediately following the crash, which happened around 10 p.m.

He was charged with DWI and careless operation of a vehicle.

Witnesses said Rester crossed four lanes of traffic on Joor Road and slammed into a sheriff's office SUV.

Deputies said the D.A.R.E. vehicle was hit while crossing bridge over the Comite River.

They said Rester refused treatment from paramedics.

They added the deputy's hand was possibly fractured in the accident.

    The crash remains under investigation.
