How do you do this? What is needed? I just want to know so when I do sell my gun I have the peace of mind that I'm not legally liable for anything.

If you trust the guy just give him the gun and he will give you the cash/crack etc... If it is a stranger I would get a notarized bill of sale. I think they were trying to find a standardized bill of sale around here last week not sure if they did.

If someone comes across as fishy I would avoid selling to him, although legally you can unless you have reason to believe he is a convicted felon or otheriwse not legally able to own a handgun.

Some folks like to write a bill of sale with license #'s and serial number of the firearms. Not a big deal.

Personally I wouldn't want to go through the hassle with a notary or any of that. . . might as well go buy one new.

I would like to have something saying that the gun is now out my hands and I have no dealings with it anymore. You never know who's hands that gun may fall to after you sell it.

I sold an AK to a guy I didn't know . My son knew the family so I was cool with it . My wife typed up a bill of sale listing the model and serial number of the gun and the price . Made two copies . Each of us signed both copies . Both parties are covered .

Thats how most are sold, very few require a bill of sale.
