    Good morning instructors,

Hope all had a Merry Christmas. It has likely been a while since some of you have heard from the CHP Unit, so we wanted to send a quick update email. As you may know, in September Sgt. Arman Douglas was promoted to another section. We have been without a Sgt. since his departure, but are working to identify his replacement in the near future.

This year the CHP Unit dug ourselves out of a backlog, and approved more permits than any previous year (just shy of 40,000). This was accomplished despite staffing, Covid, and technological hurdles. We look forward to continuing this trend into next year.

Moving into 2022, we have a few goals in sight. As mentioned above, we hope to fill the Sgt. vacancy and stay fully staffed in order to best serve our customers. We are working to add CHP to LA Wallet (many permittees are asking us about this). We attempted to complete this in the past, but for various reasons were unable to. However, we are hopeful to have this implemented in early 2022.

Furthermore, we are working towards updating/upgrading our online system. Our goal is to make it more modern and user friendly for applicants as well as instructors. We hope to have this accomplished by late 2022. Finally, we have recently reached out to a couple of states regarding adding reciprocity, and are awaiting decisions from them. No promises…

The CHP Unit thanks you all for a very productive year, and we look forward to what 2022 brings. As always, should you require any assistance please feel free to contact us. Stay safe and happy New Year!
