I am looking for the specific law that states that at 18, I can legally buy a handgun from an individual. I am not so good with looking up the laws on the LA legislature website and I did not notice it on the sticky. Anyone have the exact article?
Yes, you can legally buy any firearm (except class 3, obviously) from an individual at 18.
Unfortunately I can't state the statute at this time but it's something in regards to the fact that the only federal laws are for over the counter sales and no louisiana laws state otherwise.
Spanky, we were discussing this on one of my Class III forums just yesterday. You can actually buy and make short barrel rifles, silencers and machine guns at 18. Just not from a dealer. Face to face transfers at 18 go through and are relatively easy. Same as a regular firearm, both parties have to reside in the same state and the paperwork must be submitted in advance. Transfer takes place once paperwork is approved (about 8 - 12 weeks currently).
A. Unlawful sales of weapons to minors is the selling or otherwise delivering for value of any firearm or other instrumentality customarily used as a dangerous weapon to any person under the age of eighteen. Lack of knowledge of the minor's age shall not be a defense.
