This is an M1 Carbine manufactured by Underwood, using a receiver manufactured by The Inland Mfg. Division of General Motors and transferred to Underwood. The "Inland" on the receiver has been LINED-OUT.
I inherited this carbine from my father, and I've been in contact with it since the early-seventies. I have fired it several times, but not a whole lot, which is why I had all of that .30 caliber ammunition to sell, recently. I do not have the same passion for this piece as Dad did however, so I'd like to pass it on to someone that does.
I'm posting a number of pictures that show various markings on parts of the rifle. I also believe the sling on this carbine is original WW-II.
The serial number on this rifle / receiver is 637XXX, which would have been produced between May of 1942 and Sept. of 1943, probably later in that time frame. The Underwood barrel is marked "09-43". I don't have a bore gauge, but this rifle shoots well and the bore appears to be in very-good to excellent condition.
I'd like to get $1300 for the rifle, but feel free to make an offer.
I live in New Orleans, and you can pick it up or I will ship for $35 to the FFL holder of your choice. If you live close by, I may even deliver.
PM me if interested, and let me know if you have any questions.
